[AkaKuro] The Awakening
This is the continuation of the butterfly! AUÂ
First things first⊠let me just clarify how much I hate the concept of having teeth that grew when youâre an adult. Itâs painful and unnecessary and Iâve been having an on-and-off fever for a week and I hate itâŠ
But here is the continuation of AkaKuro butterfly AU!
--
I would like it if we are together.
Together⊠Together?
Yes.
We might become strangers after The Slumber.
Then Iâd fall for you all over again, Tetsuya, would you believe me?
I suppose I would.

âNO!â Akashi Seijuurou screamed, surprising literally everyone in attendance. There are others like him, of course; after all there are others whose child, partner, friend or brother did not make it out of metamorphosis and they were all crying for the lost children. But Akashi Seijuurou of the Akashi family did not show the behavior expected of a person who had lost their friend to the Mother Nature. He stood his ground and obscured the Guardian of the Tree of Life from taking down the bluish white cocoon.
âWinter is approaching, Akashi-sama.â The Guardian sighed, exasperated. âWe need the Tree of Life to prepare itself for the next batch of cocoons. As it has always been.â Spring would come and children would start their metamorphosis. But Akashi stood his ground. âHeâs alive, Midorima⊠he just needs some more timeâŠâ It was unlike the proud Akashi clan to beg, but he almost sound like he was begging. Midorima took a deep breath and held his scepter even tighter. âIâm sorry, Akashi-sama, but you are not the patriarch yet and this is my duty.â Midorimaâs green wings flapped once and a fairy dust made its way to Akashi, who instantly buckled.
âNo⊠no⊠no!!!â But he was paralyzed, unable to do a thing as Midorima went over him and try to sweep off the cocoon. But then the craziest thing happened.
ThumpâŠ
The Tree of Life is aglow, something that does not happen unless it was ready for the next batch of cocoon. Midorimaâs eyes widened.
ThumpâŠ
The sound of heartbeat resounded throughout the dome housing the sacred tree and Akashi found himself being able to stand. He went over to Kurokoâs cocoon, touching it as carefully as he could.
ThumpâŠ
âYou are alive, arenât you?â He asked, sounding utterly hopeful.
Thump⊠ThumpâŠ
âI know it, I know it, Tetsuya⊠Iâll waitâŠâ Akashi Seijuurou smiled while Midorima was on his knees, looking utterly shocked. âThe Tree of Life hasâŠâ the continuation was lost among the unintelligible chatter, the crowd behind them shuffled.
It was then that a pair of butterflies came down from the higher branch of the tree, hands in one another as a beautiful sunset and magenta meshed to give the most beautiful view. Ogiwara Shigehiro and Momoi Satsuki stood in front of Midorima with a look of confusion and a firm smile respectively. âThe Tree has spoken,â Momoiâs face held the smile still. âShe wishes to nurture this cocoon until it hatches. I swear these words as the future Guardian of the Tree of Life.â The crowd exploded.
âWhy this particular cocoon?!â
âArenât you just saying that because that cocoon is your friend?!â
âWhy him?! Why not my daughter?!â
Midorima stood up and faced the crowd, his hands held out in front of him. âIâm afraid that she is not lyingâŠâ He bit his lower lip. âThat is exactly what the Tree says to me.â And then the crowd shouted their questions and concerns. Midorima and Momoi stood their ground to protect the Tree and answered everything they possibly could.
Ogiwara tuned out the noises and released his hand from Momoiâs. Unfamiliar magenta eyes bored into his own, as if afraid that he will never return. But Ogiwara smiled, a painful smile he reserved to remind her that it hurts him just as much to not remember being in love with this beautiful and amazing butterfly. But Momoi took a deep breath and let him leave.
Ogiwara fluttered over to where Akashi was standing and touched the beating cocoon gently and the redhead perked almost immediately.
âShigehiroâŠâ He murmured wariness and awe meshing in one little whisper. Shigehiroâs eyes widened, the future patriarch knew him from âbeforeâ as well⊠But he returned his gaze to the bluish white cocoon and smiled to himself. âI donât want this guy to disappear eitherâŠâ Ogiwara remembered the beautiful voice he heard when he was sleeping, conversing to fend off boredom and talking about everything they do not know. He had reached out to person inside this cocoon, even when he didnât know who it was. âHe is very kindâŠâ
I would very much like to see you when we emerge.
Me too! See you later, okay?
Ogiwara Shigehiro remembered promising that they would meet each other when they wake up while forgetting about everything else.
--
âDonât take off your scarf, okay? Itâs still cold inside!â Momoi sighed as she watched the love of her life fly towards the cocoon where Tetsu-kun were, utterly excited. She opted to walk instead of fly because she didnât want to ruin the Bento Shige-chan had cooked for the three of them. Despite not remembering a single thing about her and Sei-kun, Shige-chan always seemed so eager to make new memories with them and it calmed her somehow.
She remembered the days she didnât even let him out of her sight, trapping his hand on her ownâs always. She was deathly afraid of losing Shige-chan that she practically chained his hand to her own. But Shige-chan, still with a confused look on his face, would ask her if she was okay.
Taking a deep breath, she laughed to herself. Momoi didnât fancy herself as a possessive person, and that was how she acted towards Shige-chan. She wondered what Sei-kun would do if faced with the same predicament.
They reached Tetsu-kunâs branch, and Shige-chan was sitting next to Tetsu-kunâs cocoon, rattling off about his first experience with snow. Momoi sat next to Sei-kun and handed him the onigiri Shige-chan had made.
âIt does not change at allâŠâ Sei-kun remarked, feeling nostalgic at the slightly messy onigiri that was pretty much Shige-chanâs specialty. Momoi smiled.
Wintery breeze accompanied the two of them as they listened to Shige-chan nattering to Tetsu-kun and it felt like home, somehow.
--
It was midnight, mid-winter, and the dome is freezing. But Akashi was trying his best to keep Tetsuya from falling.
The branch had cracked, unable to support the cocoonâs weight because it lacked its usual nutrition. The Tree of Life may have wished to nurture Tetsuya, but it does not make winter any less scary than it usually is.
Akashi could hear the erratic heartbeat as the Tree glowed on and off. He felt absolutely desperate. Is this it? Will this be the end? Will Tetsuya just fall over and never flap his wings? Akashi tried to support the cocoon with all his strength.
(But butterflies are never known for their strengthâŠ)
He barely register Satsukiâs voice screaming behind him as he used all his strength to not let the cocoon fall. But then his knees buckled for a second and he could hear Shigehiro scream behind him. Tetsuyaâs cocoon fell off the branch and Akashi felt himself hugging the cocoon as they fell towards the lower branch.
But as they were falling, he could hear the sound of cracking from the cocoon and instead of a cocoon, Akashi was holding the love of his life in his arms.
They both fell, of course, and Akashi was the one shielding his lover from the blow. His wings hurt and he might need to check it later, but right now he had a smile on his face as beautiful beautiful baby blue hair tickled his chin and Tetsuya was the one on top of him. Azure met crimson and Akashi found himself just⊠smiling. For the first time after his parents died, he smiled a genuine smile upon feasting his eyes with the absolute beauty that was his lover. Tetsuya looked as paleâor even paler as he was before but it just made him more beautiful than ever.
âTetsu-â
Jet black wings emerged on Tetsuyaâs back and it was devoid of anything. There are no markings like Akashiâs or Satsukiâs own, and it has no secondary color like Shigehiroâs own. Tetsuyaâs wings are pure darkness that looked as beautiful as it was menacing. Cold azure eyes showed no recognition whatsoever as it feasted upon Akashiâs face and Tetsuya, voice as cold as the winter he was born in, asked.
âWho are you?â
We might become strangers after The Slumber.
And they have.
Seijuurou shed a single tear before clearing his throat and introduced himself.
âMy name is Akashi Seijuurou and I want you to marry me.â
