#ogdolls

There are over one hundred unique AG dolls, with nine different face molds. There are probably more OG dolls than that, and many face molds; more dolls are constantly being released! Claire’s face mold seems to be the most common. 

Their heads are about equal in size. Both are 18 inches tall. Their limbs are about similar in length and circumference. They can share clothes, accessories, and most shoes. 

OG dolls have rooted hair, which means it is implanted into the scalp with a needle. The hair must be cut to be removed. I am fairly certain it is made from saran. 

AG dolls have wigs made from Kanekalon. The wigs can be removed without damaging the hair, and replaced with a new wig. 

Both OG and AG dolls have sleep eyes that open and close, with realistic attached eyelashes. 

Both have beautiful, detailed irises. 

OG dolls all have heads attached with zip ties to cloth bodies. The body fabric of OG dolls feels synthetic, like nylon. 

AG dolls generally have neck strings keeping the head attached, but some (usually newer) dolls have zip ties. My Felicity has strings.  AG dolls also generally have cotton cloth bodies. AG recently tried to switch to a synthetic fabric for torsos similar to what OG uses, but this was an unpopular decision with customers and has since been reversed. 

OG dolls’ limbs have soft and squishy vinyl. Here I demonstrate how I can bend Claire’s fingers. 

And squish her arms and legs. 

AG dolls’ fingers don’t bend. 

The vinyl is much more rigid at the fingers, and her arm can’t be squished. Some of the newer AG dolls have limbs with squishy vinyl, but that was also an unpopular decision and I believe AG has recently returned to rigid vinyl, or are in the process of doing so. 

OG dolls have lovely, tight curls that look very realistic. It must be handled carefully, though--OG hair is can become tangled easily if not properly cared for. Wet brushing can usually remove all the snags. 

AG hair is generally easier to keep looking tidy, although it tends to take more work to fix issues than OG hair does. But the dolls tend to have looser, larger curls, which sometimes can look a little larger than they should. Here is Claire compared with my #55, whose hair is long and curly. 

Overall, I personally prefer AG dolls for their soft cotton torsos, their rigid vinyl, and their ease of customization. But I certainly don’t dislike OG dolls; I think they’re cute and charming, and the diversity of dolls is wonderful to see. I also like that the company strives to be environmentally conscious.
