book ask game!
12. What is a trope you love? Sue me for this one, I guess, but I fucking love miscommunication when it's done well. People so often hate miscommunication because it's handled poorly but certain authors really know how to use it, mainly Sally Rooney. Also shoot me for this one, but I like cheating. I don't give a fuck if the relationship is "good" to root for, a lot of the times I'm not reading romcom books anyway so I don't really care about how moral or redeemable the characters are, I literally just want drama. Annnnnd, I'm an absolute slut for women who end up in creepy houses and are maybe being haunted, but also is the haunting a metaphor for something else? Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier you will always be famous. Verity by Colleen Hoover found dead in a ditch somewhere, I guess.
13. What is a trope you hate? I hate a third act breakup because they never make any sense and are usually just shoved in the last five chapters of a book to cause some extra conflixt. The only time I've ever seen it make sense was in Book Lovers by Emily Henry. I hate thrillers that try so hard to make their big twist unguessable and end up with a plot that makes no sense the second you start trying to figure out how it all worked. I hate overpowered characters in fantasy who are somehow always proven right by the narrative because god forbid we humble our protagonists a bit. Speaking of fantasy, I don't appreciate books that have this alleged world-ending war that I should be scared about, and somehow every single good guy ends up unscathed, alive, and/or resurrected. I also don't like fake dating and I don't like just-one-bed, simply because I feel like they're so played-out at this point that whenever it shows up in a book, it's like the author and the characters are breaking the fourth wall and looking directly at you.
22. Have you met any authors? I have not, but when I had my book podcast in uni, Ocean Vuong and M.L. Rio both interacted with my stories so we're basically best friends.
