                to succumb to the inner monster now a consistent failure;  darkness claiming every bit of light that shone through emerald hues.  (  tom no longer  )   &   with one half of his pickaxe buried into another's skull;  tranquillity follows until the presence of another ruins the peace settled.  a heavy boot is pressed to the unfortunate souls chest,  a firm push as weapon is removed;  the spray of crimson decorating the mine walls.  once the thud of dead weight echoes,  aggressive footsteps make their way towards the other;  weapon in hand  &  ready to swing.
