Misadventures in Sawdust at Offerman Woodshop by Nick Offerman
I am reading this and it’s terrific. Turns out Mr. Offerman and I share literally hundreds of opinions about the concept of Good Clean Fun. The book is entertaining and funny, but also most informative about the fine art of making sawdust in such a manner that the waste is occasionally a handsome object.
Reading about the Offerman Woodshop interspersed with many references to Tolkien, Marvel Comics, Doctor Who, and single malt whisky serves to put a broad smile on my face and itch to get into my own wood shop with a new project (while also making me feel slightly sad because I will likely never have an opportunity to hang out with him in person, so this book in audio form—read by the author—will have to suffice).
I don’t really watch Parks and Recreation, but I am aware of Nick’s work there and elsewhere. It gives me great pleasure and a little hope to know that there are very awesome people out there who are a little bit like me. I suspect many people already know this, but Nick Offerman is the best modern version of a Man’s Man that I know of.
