Business card for Naples Park, FL record store Offbeat Music, acquired sometime in the mid-90s.
It’s hard to believe there was once an actual record store in this part of southwest Florida. I think I stopped in here sometime in the mid-90s when vacationing on nearby Sanibel Island. If I’m not mistaken, my big score was a copy of Stereolab’s “Ping Pong” 7″.
Anyway, I think this store ceased to exist quite some time ago, as very little comes up when trying to Google it. One of the few hits was an interview with Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace, who I learned spent a good chunk of her childhood in Naples. In it, she mentioned playing at Offbeat Music near the beginning of her musical career.
My mother moved to Naples about fifteen years ago, and I know I’ve driven past this location countless times since. Though according to Google Maps it’s currently either a Verizon store or a Mexican restaurant.
