//Why mun shouldn’t be let near muses :)
@ kirkland I hope you’re ready ;)
Starfleet in Discovery and now in Academy is an organisation trying to evolve from a place of defence and warfare, in a universe that was terrifying and isolating for a Very long time (well, for most species anyway).
Discovery shows up and demonstrates what starfleet and the federation can actually be when you're not in constant survival mode to people who are not old enough to remember what it was like to live in easier times. They gave who they found in the future hope for something better and the ability to actually work towards that.
But the flipside to that is that they're kind of a mess to start with in ways that need institutional change and not just lip service. Disco was a catalyst, but they weren't a magical fix.
That's to say, i'm not Surprised the whole war college existence made some people uncomfortable. That's what they're growing Away from as an organisation. It's also not entirely unlike the story of how starfleet developed from military to start with.
The federation is still a wreck and starfleet is still rebuilding, this academy is their optimism for the future. This is their first generation of actual proper cadets in a Long time. It's genuinely a bit unrealistic that it's happening so soon after Disco's arrival if we're going to be annoyingly realistic about it. I assume that it would Not have happened so soon chronologically had they not been interested in retaining Oded Fehr and Tig Notaro as cast members.
I guess my point is, yeah that was a bit uncomfortable! From a narrative perspective, this makes sense for the era and what they're growing away from! But the very fact that they're moving onto an academy is literal proof that they're moving Away from that, and that this is the function of the show. The academy.
that said, her going off to war college was absolutely just an excuse to keep her on the planet so she can guest star without having to either keep her there full time Or come up with contrived reasons for why she's on Earth again. Sometimes an odd choice is just to make life easier for the writers, lbr.
finally rain, finally rain. flushing out the garden in the house, the house, the house where i grew up, grew up, grew up.
I love looking at different people hermit designs cause sometimes they look like the most regular everyday person, it's, just a guy!!!! and i'm like, true true
and then there's the eldritch monstrosity's who are adorable either way
and then there's a furry. or two... or maybe all of them.
and like the middle is like, modern-day werewolf type stuff :)
I love it!!

I ship Mycroft with the mysterious anon
I agree that the perk of this ‘ship’ is the anonymity of one of the parties.
