#of nowhere

obito and rin are wanderers, looking for a new town to live in. they arrive in a small town in the middle of nowhere. intrigued, they check it out and lo and behold, it’s a nice community! until this one guy rides up on his horse, fast enough to spook their own horses to step back. the guy stops, giving them a hard glare: “get the fuck out.”

hm. hospitality’s great too. his name’s kakashi.

so of course they don’t leave, plus they really need a place to sleep for the night. just the night and they’ll be off tomorrow morning.

oh except for the coyotes.

a shit ton of them in the middle of the night, yapping and barking and howling and crying, running around the main road. obito makes the mistake to look outside and is met with dozens of yellow and orange eyes, staring blankly at him.

before anything bad can happen the guy they met earlier, kakashi, the bartender, is running out with a broom, shouting at the coyotes. something about getting the hell out. obito’s not sure what a broom’s gonna do against a bunch of coyotes, but it works. they’re off leaping over the fence, taking their eerie voices with them.

But tonight was brimming with warmth, and she waited patiently. However, moments passed, moments stretched into lengthy silence, and there was a distinct lack of incredulous cheering, of shouting to the skies that his Mother was the best.

Instead, her child had one eyebrow raised, looking into the now empty bowl as if the soup were more interesting than the Mother.

She cried on the inside.
