me thinking about the details of names in the fair-folk , and how it’s impossible to know a fae’s real name because they’re always changing . a person’s name could be a dozen different things to a dozen different people , names are shaped around words & meanings , not anything else . a fae’s name could sound so long for one person , or short to another  ( i.e. the difference between a childhood friend who you’ve come to associate many different words and meanings into *  friend , love , soul-sharer , versus greeting a stranger  * of which there are only a few variations of : kind-stranger , cruel-stranger , dirty-stranger , suspicious-stranger , dangerous-stranger , etc . )  and of course there are set titles that must always be followed , like lord / king / other various royalty greetings , as well as titles for merchants and tradesmen that are meant to show respect or kinship . and that’s one way why it’s impossible to get a fae’s name to trap them , and they’re very clever -- many of them adopting either mortal pseudonyms or mashing together various letters or parts of their favorite words until they get something that flows like a mortal name .      another thing that is important in the fair-folk names : the infliction which they are said . the way it is spoken changes it’s meaning sometimes . harshness and cruelty change a name and make it bitter , gentleness and love change a name and make it intimate . and yet it could be the same exact words that you’re saying ( of course this is true for mortal names too , depending on the way someone says it to you changes the way that your own name feels against your skin )  all of this added with the already somehow impossibility of being able to verbally speak their language ,  it’s easy to understand how this language comes from a world entirely different than our own .      a side note , for those who are interested .  these are some of the words that were often given as associated names for jean ( which is a mortal name he adapted when his home was destroyed and he came to our world ) :  the winds ,  the trees , soul-barer , sunbeam , rose-tiped , sugar-lips , honey-tongued , delicate , timeless , life cycler , death-redone , dawn , ancient , garden , hurricanes , and many more .
