Oedipus Complex
Before you think psychoanalysis is always a good approach it’s worth noting that Freud (the father of psychoanalysis) believed that boys suffered an Oedupus complex - like the mythological figure - boys had great sexual desires for their mother but did not go through with the act because they feared castration from their father. To ensure their father would not castraight them they befriend him, taking on his male personlity.
Now all men who look back and think no I did not want to do my mother - Freud argues you did, it’s just shoved down into you unconscious so you don’t know that you did.
