      HE’S DONE SO WELL,  trying to seem brave despite the tremble that echoes in his voice.  Cassandra wasn’t his sister.  She was Shiva’s daughter though and as such,  she would say what she wanted to.  “ What would you like to hear boy? ” she asked,  her tone mocking him.  With small steps,  she circled around his body,  tight and ready to pounce and land the final blow.  She was like a lioness,  toying with her food,  waiting for his reactions to find the weaknesses that he so easily revealed to her.  

“ She was unloved and unwanted,  trained to be a weapon and you know what?  Cassandra has failed at that too.  Her one purpose in life and she can’t even fulfill it.  What is the point of her wasted life? ”

“She is loved and she is wanted. You just don’t deserve her.” He watched her carefully, tense and fingers gripping his staff probably too tightly.

Everything is soft and warm and comfortable, and Percy is loath to leave this pleasant darkness where nothing hurts and his mind is gifted a much-needed break from the constant assault that is their current lives. However, something stirs him. It isn’t a violent movement, by any means, and once he has gained enough consciousness to even feel what that something is, he is surprised it has roused him at all. One would think he would sleep as though his body were still lifeless. On the other hand, perhaps it makes sense that he is only precariously at rest. He was  dead for a little while there, a few hours ( ? ) ago, and typically, men his age only die through violent means.

What assaults him tonight is not violence; it is a careful pair of hands that slip under his torso and into one of his inner pockets, and then slide back out from under him. That doesn’t mean it can’t be the doing of an enemy, however, and Percy’s groggy mind is a little too aware that Cassandra has all but confirmed that there is a mole within Whitestone. Therefore, he reaches for the gun under his pillow ( Ripley’s old one ) and sits up with a start to point it directly at his assailant.

          “------...It’s been quiet today.” The momentary peace ought to have been reassuring, but in this instance not so much. Quiet meant the enemy was regrouping, plotting. Another assault would follow when they were least prepared. They had too many wounded to care for as it was ------ Kaenea felt the strain, felt weakened, but it felt too early to rest either. So if the demons were to attack again, they needed a plan set in place to repel them.
