Ariel laughed, picking up the card attached to one of the small bouquets. Around them, her entire dressing room was covered in floral arrangements to congratulate her on another spectacular night. “I supposed I’ve gotten a little used to it. Oooh, this one’s not so secret.” She flipped the card over before offering it to her older sister. “Mr. Andersen’s seen the show three times already. Same balcony every time.”
She picked up a box of chocolate-covered strawberries next, one of at least half-a-dozen strewn around her room. By now, her strawberry obsession had become well-known among fans of the show and its leading lady. “Want some? These are amazing! The creamiest chocolate I’ve ever tasted.”

She doesn’t say anything. The glare is enough to say she will give her sister a bad makeover in her sleep if Attina utters one more word. Another prince engaged to a different mermaid - a nasty voice in the back of her mind whispers you’ll never find a husband and that’s scaring her. But she can’t let her silly older sister know ; Alana is carefree and above it all, and that must not falter.
A haughty huff accompanies her dramatically subtle exit from the ball. There’s no point staying, she reasons, if there’s only her sisters to dance with.
