I am so bad at actually updating my own blogs lol. I will try harder. Likewise, I've not been on the beach much last few months because of the heat wave making it too hot. It also means the beach is busy and hard to pass through. If I wasn't working early mornings I would just go in the mornings.
As an apology have some washed up deadly balloons from over the years. 'Portuguese man o' war' are potentially deadly even when washed up so be careful, best to report to beach patrol if they do wash up because when there is one there is usually more.
They look like jellyfish, but they're actually a siphonophore! A colonial organism that resembles a jellyfish.
I should document more the man-made balloons because it is A LOT. They're just not usually intact like the ones here, often just the plastic ribbon, tie ends or scraps of foil left.

A sneak peak into my process from trash to treasure! ππ
Welcome to Tidal Treasures! As a lifelong ocean conservationist, I believe that plastic litter has no place in our environment. In my personal and professional travels, I have always collected pieces of plastic from coastlines and beaches - especially small, degraded fragments that cannot otherwise be recycled or effectively managed - and now I am turning them into unique creations to keep them out of the environment. Every piece tells a story about where that plastic came from, how it ended up in the environment, and how we can prevent it from getting there in the future. My hope is that these pieces can help raise awareness around plastic pollution prevention, minimize the use of single-use plastics, and bring a bit of joy and beauty to one of our most pressing environmental challenges. The ocean has always been my happy place - help me make sure that it stays plastic-free and full of wonder for generations to come!

Photos from 2014
Caught in a bad wave.
I try to break the surface.
Only to be caught in the depths of the footprint you left.
Apologies for the delay; I am trying to post all my old stuff here, and I keep forgetting to sort though the folder to find stuff to submit.
Have some arty photos from 2014 after a beach clean; the soy fish always seems poignant when beach cleaning. A plastic fish in a sea of plastic; disposed of once it seasons the fish you eat.
