i inconsistently write the clan name is Starfall/Starfell. the original fireteam Starfall was Eîr, Eva, and Vias during the Ahamkara hunt

the only Ahamkara they ever killed was an actively malicious one

they ended up settling into a clan with Vias, Kirach, and Jianna; and they've inducted new members since then

vela and jackdaw both wittle/carve wood as a hobby. it's something they can do to occupy their hands when they're resting at campsites, with little impact on nature. they carry dedicated knives for it, and they use the shavings for fire

i think that if not all, then most hunters are able to sew and repair their gear, at least to a minor extent

there's networks of hunters and hunter-aligned Lightbearers, plus trusted few from other classes (typically a hunter's fireteam or partner). they trade information and favours. the Vanguard is aware of them, but most of them are off the radar.

they do a lot of scouting and keeping eyes on the planets, and have a comms/messaging system that moves info along incredibly fast. there's multiple networks, often with overlapping territory. not all hunters are part of them, and new lights are appraised by extant members carefully before it's decided if they can be trusted with the networks

the private hunter networks cooperate with the vanguard scouts, with some overlapping memberships, but they're able to cover more ground and they have more consistent posts and dens

hunters that frequent the towers are usually only in the biggest/publicly known ones. the hunter vanguard usually isn't even fully inducted to the deeply secretive ones, and has to rely on representatives/scouts reporting to them

Jackdaw actually manages the network on Nessus at the moment (for timeline reference, he took command around the time of Beyond Light, and he is still there as of episode Heresy). Aster is doing research on the Vex there, and as he followed his husband he agreed to the position, as the previous commander was at the end of her rotation (with a few exceptions, the teams are typically rotated around to prevent duty fatigue and keep fresh eyes on the area)

canon divergence: vela is the one who took crow under his wing. while crow has experience, both in this life and in muscle memory from uldren, he didn't get much training with his light. after nayia brought crow back to the tower and he got inducted into the clan, vela took him afield to meet jack's crew and to meet tsukiko.

Crow hc: he's so strongly attuned to solar that he stuggles with other aspects. when Vela started his training harnessing void, Crow had issues with the whispers from it. he's still very wary of it, even as now as vanguard, but he can use void invisibility fairly easily

while crow is incredibly strong in the light, he has too much hesitance and anxiety to use the darkness or prismatic
