When he was 10 years old, she died to the perils of the Hyrulean countryside (understood to mean a robot shaped like Jomon pottery blew her up with lasers,) only one year before Hyrule saw Princess Zelda return. Sabel was adopted by Domri of the Sheikah, an esteemed scholar of magic and a friend of his mother. Sabel was much beloved. Domri was sentimental for the child and saw in him all his dear friend's virtues. He taught Sabel personally, aiming to pass down his collected knowledge. Only after eight years, on the day of the Upheaval, Domri realized with a bitter pang he had been too soft on Sabel- he must have raised the child wrong- for a demonic familiar had courted Sabel, and he now allowed it to whisper in his ear. Sabel's creeping dread had long taken root. With it, Oneth, a spirit offering friendship, familiarship, and a path out of the doomed future.
