Meet Stig, my little blind norn seer with his flock of bird friends :) A Herald with a twist. Eventually a Wayfinder, separate from the Commander!
Sooooo I've already had this character for a while, (both in gw2 and out). I have a sylvari version of him â and he will still be existing and thriving as a separate character! However, I wanted to bring the original version of him to life as well. He always had Nordic themes, so making this version of him a norn was an obvious choice
Anyway, there is lore and a funny sketch under the cut for those who'd want to look at them!! (a huge chunk of text again, yeah, I'm sorry. It's featuring @lady-quen's Numen, though!! *wink wink*)
Maybe the weakest, skinniest little norn with nothing much behind his name, Stig was somewhat of an outcast from the moment he was born. Blind since birth, he was "blessed" by an elusive Cuckoo Spirit to help him on his life's journey, yet unable to shapeshift into their form or communicate with them, no matter how hard he tried. He was considered unworthy of norns' boastful lifestyle by some, and pitied for his misfortunes by others, although nobody could ever compare to how he looked upon himself for the happenstance of his birth. Was he "defective" in some way, not worth the effort to lift him up and let him live a life, try to reach for something more?
Still staying loyal to Cuckoo even without their support, Stig turned to Raven after being noticed by him for the cleverness with which the little norn tried to overcome the burdens of his own existence â there, at a young age, was discovered his gift of foresight, an explanation to all the weird sensory visions he would receive; some of them even looked as if he could actually see. Different kinds, both cryptic and mundane. Finally, something he could do and help others with, right? It was probably nice for a time, until enough commotions or unfortunate events were caused, maybe even blamed on him for doing his job wrong, causing Stig to be ever more cautious with sharing what he had gleaned.
Two ravens he rescued were his main company, aside from occasionally the kid of the famous Eir Stegalkin and his little brother with a strange affinity for ice magic. One day, however, the scenery changed into a strange landscape, an echo of the real world, as Stig stumbled through a wayward portal into the Mists. He had to survive there for a time all alone, not even his feathery friends to accompany him, communing with Spirits â then anyone, who'd listen â and desperately trying to get back home. A subtle whisper in his head grew louder the more time he spent essentially meditating, a voice of a person, until it formed and presented itself as none other than Asgeir Dragonrender. With his, rather frustrated at first, help, the little norn managed to get back to the world of the living, though not before getting injured on the way home â a weird, potent surge of lightning struck him. He awoke back home already tended to.
Other norn don't believe him at first when he claims Asgeir was the one to help and guide him â it takes a bit of convincing, talking with the legendary hero's echo and showing Stig's newfound strengths. He can channel the power of the Mists through their connection now, something only havrouns of the Spirits of the Wild can typically do. This earns him the respect of his peers â after all, he is aided by Dragonrender himself. People around him wonder: this must mean he could be the one to crack the Tooth, the Norn of Prophecy, right? Someone Stig never even dared to believe he could be.
However, it was never meant to be. After all the extra training and tireless nights of adapting the chosen combat style to his needs, the one to challange the Tooth wasn't him â instead, it was the hot-headed son of Eir, his friend Braham, who's been adventuring with the famous Pact Commander away from Hoelbrak. One arrow was fired â and as the icy exterior of the trophy crumbled, so did Stig's hopes of proving himself worthy to these people. He became an outcast again. At least his birds and Asgeir were still with him. It didn't matter that Braham supposedly failed his mission to kill the Ice Dragon afterwards: the damage was already done.
Then everything started to go downhill once Kralkatorrik was slain. Unexplainable mysteries, strange fog, disappearances. His friend becoming more and more distant and physically cold until one day he was gone as well. One of the only people who showed Stig what kindness looked like, aside from his mother. It was distressing, scary, none of his visions showing him the way â so he had to find his own, once again. This was the decision that led him to join the Commander and Braham in their venture to the Far Shiverpeaks, and discover the true nature of the little elementalist he called a friend â a scion and champion of Jormag, Numen, who's been the mysterious Cuckoo "Spirit" this whole time.
The team has to confront this dragon on the surface of a cold, frozen Lake Doric â and Asgeir recognizes it. Every norn knows the story of the legendary slayer of Frostfang â Dragonrender killed Jormag's greatest champion in one blow with the help of the Spirits. It was a clear victory, the thing falling off a cliff from the sheer force of the blow, mortally wounded. So how could the very same creature stand before him once again?
The question was answered when the dragon showed the large scar on their neck; they didn't quite remember the fight, but the old wound spoke for itself. A surprise for everyone involved â the greatest kill of Asgeir turned out to be a failure. Remains of the beast were confused with those of Claws of Jormag. And maybe a fact worst of all for the echo of a fallen hero â the frigid monster he was sure he had slain turned out to be one of the very Spirits that helped guide his people to the new home.
(Cue the funny sketch I promised)
Even after that, the team managed to save Numen and end the terror of both Dragons of Fire and Ice.
Eventually, Stig would become Numen's Champion, wanting to be there for them like the dragon was for him. Maybe he had finally found a place he was meant to be in, beside this creature of ice â lonely, yet so full of love for the world. Asgeir wasn't too amused, but what is one more voice in Stig's head, right?
This would mean he'd continue to help the Commander further down the line, and maybe even meet the elusive wizards in their glittering towers â who might have a hand in him meeting Asgeir in the first place.

WHY NOT ig!!- idk why, honestly, and i think they exist in both the world of tsaw AND the human world, and can travel between dimensions and teleport n shit because once again, why the frackledackle not. maybe ill write stm into his lore about why, like maybe they found some kinda magical artifact that lets him travel thru time n space.. and maybe he incorporated it into his outfit somehow, like if it was a magic rock or bead or button or anything like that they use it as a button on their fit..... hmmm..m.mm....

How does reincarnation work?
Every human is born with a brain and heart, thoses are the receptacles of their soul.
When a person dies, if their heart and brain aren't directly damaged, the soul is expulsed from it's body, it is free to roam and search a new vessel with an undamaged heart and brain to reincarnate into.
The soul cannot reincarnate in their previous body without any chirurgical change of its receptacle organs.

The history of reincarnation
While there seem to be proof that there was a point in time where humans couldn't reincarnate, there is very little documentation on it's discovery, the events dating back to a time for wich writings are almost nonexistent.
There are a few tales and paintings suggesting something unknown appeared and gave humans the capacity to reincarnate, but the origin of the event is unknown, same goes for the way it managed to propagate through the entire human species.
Deincarnation
Once reincarnated, a soul's memories of death (deincarnation) are hazy and unclear, remaining as a feeling rather than an actual tangible event.
Every person who has experienced it has a similar way to describe it though, it's empty, cold, monotonous, some people manage to find comfort in it, but most prefer to come back to life.
The social and economic state of reincarnation in the current day
In most context, people consider a soul leaving it's body as a form of loosing someone, especially when the body is the one the soul was born with.
A reincarnated person rarely comes back to their past social circle, as a way to make a proper cut, but there are people who only see their bodies as an aestetic they can change through reincarnating, though they are generally very rich and can afford getting a body they like the appearance of without having to care for the dead person't previous life.
When it comes to the question of how people react to seeing a stranger reincarnate in their loved one's body, it's atleast a bit painful, it's really unsetteling to see someone you once knew be completely different, but it also depends how the reincarnated person goes about it.

In the case of Gabriel what specifically made Vic uncomfortable was that he would try to pretend being her brother, but some people who don't mind that or even prefer it (Roxanne would be an example of that), though thoses are more rare.
There's a general agreement that if someone sticks around the close ones of the person they reincarnated as, they kind of owe them something, they have to be grateful for it.
It's also very frequent for families to incinerate or bury the body of the dead person to avoid having someone reincarnated in it.

- i've talked about it a bunch before, but the first story i made this universe for was centered on reincarnation, REAPTIDE was originally meant to be it's reap-focused spinoff, while i'm not sure i'll ever make something of this original story, i still think of it as a part of the universe and it has thematic ties to the rest

dw youâre all good! iâve done a couple oc lore masterposts (iâll try and backtag those as such if i remember to), so hereâs just a quick rundown:
emmyn (she/her) is an ex magical biologist turned supervillain, whoâs been corrupted, empowered, and kind of zombified by a magical crystal hivemind from a remote island
anith (peb/pebs) is a Crag (oc species, rock people, theyâve got some other stuff too but this is a tldr) and former magical geologist. also, emmynâs ex-partner (queerplatonic). their relationship ended when emmyn accidentally killed anith, and then nonconsensually resurrected peb using the crystals power (incorporating anith into the hivemind)
aria (she/her) is an amnesiac catgirl bard, fully immune to the crystals mind altering/corrupting effects, who is traveling with anith to kill emmyn. her powers do not operate by the existing magic system. yuriers will be delighted to hear she and anith develop a bit of a queerplatonic thing as well
barry (he/they) is, as always, here too. heâs emmynâs sidekick/supervillain partner, and the only other person in the hivemind so far. theyâre very on board to do evil with emmyn, but largely isnât actively malicious. he and aria sometimes play uno together while anith and emmyn duke it out

Thistle is a fairly quiet and shy individual, even more so around strangers, and sometimes is very curt with people. He's easily overwhelmed by sudden noises. Due to his upbringing, he feels the need to constantly prove his skill, leading to some very workaholic tendencies. Despite this, he's proven to be a kind person, very punctual and with a fighting spirit. If he's close enough with someone, he can get a little silly and likes pulling small, harmless pranks.
He comes from a well-off family, but he isn't close with them due to their more outdated values. He ended up immigrating to Japan and got a job as a cameraman for a movie studio during the night shoots. Since the studio was small, he needed the extra cash, so he got a second job during the day as a teacher's aide at Kimetsu Academy.
It was here where he met the history teacher, Kyojuro Rengoku. He was very intimidated at first, overwhelmed by Rengoku's high energy. However, he turns out to be a big help, keeping the teacher on track during classes and helping out with grading and the like.
They worked together for about two years before the "train incident" occurred, which luckily, Rengoku survives. It was during his recovery when Thistle confesses his feelings, and they start dating shortly after >:3

-Lived in fear during the trials in Hodges due to his hair and freckles (Two of the signs of witchcraft was being ginger and having freckles)

-Giles: They had feelings for each other for a long time. When they confessed, they made a plan for Gabriel to move in with Giles under the guise of Giles freeing him from his sinful life(being over 30 and unmarried).
-Judge Corey: Corey was the second person to accuse Gabriel of witchcraft. Corey wanted Gabriel's land, and since those accused of witchcraft can't own land, he accused him and directly caused Gabriel's execution.
-Sarah Hale: Sarah and Gabriel were rivals for Giles's affection. Sarah had no idea that Giles was gay and even if she did know she still would've tried to get with him. She was pissed beyond belief when Gabriel moved in with Giles, so pissed that she accused Gabriel of witchcraft. The accusation didn't stick and it caused Giles to completely cut her off and never speak to her again.

Oc lore dump Iâm writing in the morning because a moot made me realize I havenât lore dumped about spirit chase really before, anyways:
(This is basically all the lore that takes place before the actual story, Iâll cover the actual story later, maybe)
So Spirit Chase takes place on earth where the god of chaos and god of order teamed up to make a bunch of stuff. This was their first collaboration because they donât really like each other for obvious reasons.
The god of order made all the like functions of nature that were constant like math, gravity, momentum, all those lame things. The god of chaos made all the freaky animals and their consciences and a lot of cosmetic stuff.
Oh and also the two gods made humans together, chaos made the like wild ape part of us and order made the thinky part of us.
But the god of chaos saw how order was taking over mostly and make most of the stuff so they decided to get silly and make something outside of their agreement. A wish spirit.
The wish spirit is uhhhh basically just a shooting star that is perpetually at the bottom of this ocean, itâs weird ik. But it could grant any wish a person wanted and bling blang boom some stupid animal found it and made a wish.
The animalâs wish was to have human intelligence, but be separate from the humans. And since the wish spirit is just a pure form of chaosâs magic, it granted that wish in a chaotic way.
It created the race spirits, basically just yougai, humanoid-ish (usually) animals, idk itâs hard to explain this in English.
And some time later, god of order found out of spirits and this the wish spirit and they got so pissed they made this place, heaven, and took some humans and messed them up a bit to make angles.
The angles were basically this race that order has complete control over. The angles are literally just a project order made out of spite essentially.
And now because of the anglesâ and spiritsâ origins, the two races arenât too fond of each other. Mix that with a LOT of time and the angelsâ population staying pretty stagnant, but the humans and spirits growing in population real fast and now thereâs a war!
This war was called the centuries war because it⌠well lasted several centuries. During the war order had to crank up their production of angels a lot because of casualties and stuff, but they also gave some angels very concentrated amounts of magic to like roid them up and now angels are basically super humans with wings.
Uhhhh, skipping to the end of the war, order and chaos finally decide theyâve watched their creations die and kill the planet enough and make a peace treaty. But tensions between angels and spirits (+humans on either order or chaosâs side) still sucked so the gods just trapped each race in their respective areas, angels in heavens and spirits on earth.
After, the gods watched the planet in peace, but with nothing that exciting happening, they were both kinda like âwanna fuck with emâ?â And they started giving out blessings to people they deemed either worthy or just entertaining (guess which god valued which requirement more).
The blessings could do a variety of stuff, but they usually gave the user powers. Otherwise it was usually something mundane like better luck or a hot face.
Ordersâs blessings gave powers the user had to manually activate and had a set way they work. For example, fire, the user would have to manually create the fire and no matter what they could only make fire that worked like normal campfire fire.
Chaosâs blessings gave powers that the user just always had active or would activate when it felt like it. And the way it functions could change depending on the situation. For example, arms growing out of you whenever your anxious or something, sometimes they were tangible or not, sometimes they were your skin color, sometimes not, sometimes they were human sometimes not, etc.
And yeah the series is called Spirit Chase because the characters are trying to find the wish spirit because theyâre my OCs so obviously their lives suck. Thereâs more to the story as it goes on, but thatâs the way it starts.
I may be cringe but I am free -- my thoughts when designing/making these very self indulgent OCs that may not be canon for the intentions they were supposed to be made for. (I wonder who's designs I based them off of/ who their parents are supposed to be? Sure a mystery isn't it đ¤đ¤đ¤)
Anyways meet these fraternal twin sisters, Yuelan (moon, orchid) and Mingxuan (tomorrow, daylily). Their names are Chinese characters and are supposed to be similar to each other since they are twins after all! They do not look that similar in appearance, taking from different aspects of their intended parents, but, I imagine they are still very very close. Yuelan was originally supposed to be the older, taller one who acts like the younger sister, while Mingxuan was supposed to be the shorter, younger one who is more responsible and acts like the older sister BUT... I might just swap the seniority here XD
Yuelan's design comes from me wanting to make her like a cat girl, specifically to look like a Russian blue cat (with the blue hair, green eyes). I even gave her little cat ear buns to make her more catgirl-like, although she might wear catgirl headphones when she has her hair just down. Personality-wise, she's shy and socially anxious, but this makes her come across as cold/rude sometimes -- but inside she's always internally panicking when she needs to speak to people. This is why she hides behind her sister and has Mingxuan talk for her the majority of the time. She is intended to be a hacker/decker but I have yet to determine how exactly she got that sort of training. Her theme colour is mostly blue, as you might be able to tell.
Mingxuan's design is intended to be based off of feathers/angels, although she might have some leafy green plant aesthetics too! I gave her some crosses/plus signs (whatever you want to call it) in her ears as earrings, as her pupil, and as a necklace on her neck because guess what? She's a healer/ doctor in training! (I imagine she is trained by not only her mom but her aunties XD). Personality-wise, she is friendly and charming -- she likes to tease her younger siblings as well as hot people. She is definitely much more sociable, and pleasant to talk to in general. Her theme colour is dark green mostly, and I want her to have very earthy tones, although she likely usually dresses in black and white and is quite practical about the types of clothes she wears.
I also want to design a younger son (4-6 years younger than these two) who may be named Ceres who is heavily doted on by the rest of his family for being the baby. He would have a very chill, nonchalant personality and probably be some sort of driver. đ Maybe I will draw him soon. I imagine similar to his sisters, he has a cool colour palette -- likely dying his hair purple, and his eyes will likely be green. Or for funsies he could have heterochromia and have 1 green eye and 1 brown eye who knows XD I'll figure it out when I design him. I want him to be very catboy like and quite similar to his father so that they'll be like yup... that's his son alright.
Well but you know this is self indulgent IDK if they'll be allowed/ get to have children :') But it would be Lei's dream so who am I but a vessel to portray my OC's wishes.
