redesign of an oc from 2023 ... I did not realize it was that long ago !

old design was based on a minecraft warden, but I don't like the way I translated that design very much so I've scrapped that. I kept parts of their design I thought were cool, but I replaced them with tattoos and piercings. He has a lot more swagger now.

He's supposed to be something closer to a dragon now because I wanted to move away from the minecraft roots, but didn't want to just make a human character. So I took the obvious root of dragon, especially since I'm part chinese and she was also supposed to be part chinese like me. Depending on how I feel about it she might be part chinese part native american like me, but idk if I want to play more into the fact that this dude was a self insert or if I want to stray away from that. (I'm leaning towards yes native american because I don't actually have a lot of native characters compared to asian ones)

I need to rename him since it was just my name before; also any pronouns instead of just he/him. No one is allowed to be a cis guy sorry /j

Background

Nobody knew where she'd come from or who left her there.

Only that the pointy eared child was small- almost impossibly small for something that seemed to carry the stars of the night sky within its eyes- and that she had been placed on the temple steps by someone who could not keep her, but could not bear to dump her in careless squalor either. Wrapped in a plain linen cloth that smelled of sweet pine resin and woodsmoke. No note. No name. Only a single cord of braided silver thread looped around one of her tiny wrists, almost like the kind that pilgrims sometimes wore when they came to make offerings at the Moonmaiden's altar.

It was Sister Ingrid who found her, just before dawn, when the mist still clung to the forest floor and the last stars were paling at the horizon. She noted that the child had not been crying. That the babe had simply been lying there, awake and watchful, her bright blue eyes open to the sky, patiently waiting for something to happen.

When the high priestess had finally decided that she would stay, they named her Rhiannon and raised her alongside the other young temple acolytes. -

Rhiannon grew up between the burning smell of temple incense and crisp forest air. She saw the other acolytes as her siblings- learned to read from their borrowed prayer books, learned to count the hours of service, and always knew deep within her soul that the Moonmaiden watched over her every step down paths that no one else could see. She'd absorbed it all the way moss absorbs water: quietly, thoroughly, completely, as though this faith had always been a part of her, simply drawn to the surface by her life in the temple.

Sister Ingrid became the closest thing she had to a mother- a tall, unhurried woman with silver-streaked hair and an unshakeable patience. It was Ingrid who first placed Rhiannon's small hands on the hilt of a wooden training sword, telling her that Selûne's light did not only tend to wounds; but that sometimes it had to stand between the wounded and the dark. It was Ingrid who had taught her that devotion was not some passive thing she could carry with her. That faith, practiced truly, held iron in it.

A shepherd does not only lead the flock, she used to say, her voice low and even in the candlelit training hall. They stand at its edge, placing themselves between the meadow and the tree line. Loyal. Alert. Determined.

And Rhiannon had listened.

She was unusually quiet as a child- watching and listening to others more than her tongue spoke words. Taking everything in, creating her own kind of armor, feeling the weight of it more than she showed. The other acolytes sometimes mistook her stillness for coldness, her careful composure for distance. They were wrong in their assumptions, but she rarely corrected them. Rhiannon had learned that these feelings were hers to keep; that the faith burning deep within her bones did not need an audience.

Selûne, she had decided, was audience enough. _ At just seventeen summers old, in the light of the full moon, Rhiannon had finally spoken her vows. She meant every word of them, down to the marrow of her bones. By age twenty-two she had been ordained fully as a cleric of Selûne, bound for a life serving at the House of The Moon in Waterdeep.

She had barely gotten through the gates of the city the day she'd arrived. The Nautiloid descended without warning- a vast, terribly tentacled thing splitting open the sky above the city like a deep wound- and the world she had known for her entire life had simply ceased to exist. Rhiannon had been sealed inside of an Ilithid pod, arms bound helplessly to her sides as a parasite burrowed through the soft tissue behind her eye. The life she had so carefully, faithfully built suddenly multiple planes away. In the end, she'd survived the crash. Found and rescued others who had survived it too- battered, furious, and just as infected as she was. Life outside of her home temple was nothing like Sister Ingrid had prepared her for. There was no safety she could seek behind temple walls, no congregation she could join around reverent candlelight. Only the wilds and the open sky and the knowledge that a ticking time bomb was currently living inside of her skull. Only strangers that she had no reason to trust, and a faith that she refused to relinquish. It was the greatest trial she had ever faced. And it was only just the beginning.

Working on world-building! (Character sketches below 🩻(•؎ •) )

I've been away for a bit due to uni stuff (lame) so I haven't been drawing as much lately, but I was writing and creating nonetheless! I'm trying to set up an alternative/original world/planet earth with countries inspired by real places, with the "main" place being the Federation of Cerewa (inspired by a multitude of Slavic countries).

The shapes of the countries are loosely inspired by organs like liver, lungs & brain, but also by bones and the nervous system. Cerewa's geography is inspired by the heart (it's not very visible on the WIP map, but there will be rivers that resemble arteries and veins). I also wanted the country to be build over tunnels/bunkers/sewers (this part is inspired by my immediate area, that's peppered in abandoned WW2 bunkers and remains of trenches, now turned parts of the forest).

Coming up with country names is hard lol. I still can't decide on many and keep changing them. For now I've got three definite names chosen: Cerewa Federation (Slavic inspired) and Keltlandy/The Keltlands (Gaelic inspired) and of course Santa Nova (totalitarian, inspired by Italy). There is also Terana which for now is inspired by Bulgaria but that might change. My current plan on Cerewa is to divide it into regions (each with their own little government) and each region is a bit more inspired by a specific Slavic country. But then again, there are some Slavic countries like Croatia or Bosnia, which have a different type of climate & Cerewa is quite small, so I'd probably split those into different countries.

As for the stories that will take place in this setting, they will mostly center on hardships of life, underprivileged, regular young people in a dying world (very optimistic, I know. But that's just my style) and how they interact with it and cope. I've got two plots loosely planned out (one is a murder mystery & political coverup and the other one is a sort of coming-of-age story with a bleak undertone, also a social commentary in a way, although I am still learning how to do it sensibly).

I wanted to focus on poverty, disability, environmental degradation and loneliness; of course by pulling from my own experiences but also from my peers'/friends'.

As for the characters!

The main story, the murder mystery, had been echoing in my brain for quite some time. My first character sketches were from 2024! Such a long time ago! Of course, character relationships, backstories, names and even nationalities have changed. Anyway, here are some real old drawings of the cast circa 2024 :)

The blonde (Alicia Edera) and Adrijana are no longer a couple, at least I don't see them together anymore with how the story is. Mostly because my own tastes in women have changed but also because there's another character who I feel like will make sense for Adri to date.

Life or death for this 33 year old man who's experiencing visions of another identical life he's led but everyone is turning into these weird empty shells of what they used to be and are numb, mindless zombies walking around aimlessly until they die

also havent posted him before, this is Rauss, he's technically the antagonist of book 1! he is the Cities weather man / technically their "only" weather man since the city will only let the one weather channel be hosted / be aired in the last fifty~ish years!
