It’s always interesting, as a person of African descent, to visit these historical places, to admire their beauty and craftsmanship while wondering a.) what hand, if any, your people had in the construction and / or maintenance of it and b.) whether your people were “allowed” in there once it was done. The historical placards reference everything BUT that. It was closed due to CoVid so we couldn’t go in, but were free to wander and peek in the windows. My favorite part? Learning that this house has a central chimney that had windows that helped to draw heat up and out. And to notice that windows were directly across from each other. Dinner is served... fresh (local) tuna from #docksidenorthseafood, and grilled at home served over rice noodles with sesame oil. Sooooo we got stuck in sand (combo of low carriage and hi pressure in the tires) but an army of helpful folk appeared with shovels (including a tiny person with water wings and a sand scoop), 2x4s and finally a giant jeep with a tow, then we realized we forgot the cooler, Josh never got out the truck (ok once at the end) and Other Half won’t get in the water (ever) but the water was warm and the sun was perfect and the sky was blue.... so all round a perfect day in the #Obx. #ilikeithere #wehavethebestadventures #obx2020 #lifeinthetimeofcorona (at Corolla, North Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEkUOJ2hNd_/?igshid=2vmd264uof7m
