The little mermaid (1960, russian) this version is much closer to the original story than most other versions. #obscureanimation https://www.instagram.com/witch_weedz/p/Bvo6HhPnP_Z/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18vgecmaw3uvg
Tadpoles Looking For Their Mama (English subbed) by ObscureAnimation. (A note about the subtitles: I have purchased two DVD collections that feature this film, and both have English subtitles. However, the subtitles on both sets were garbled and had bizarre grammatical errors, so I re-worked them into more easily readable English. Since I suspect that some of the translations in the original subtitles were quite inaccurate, I don't know how accurate this version is. I know only a very small amount of Mandarin, so I couldn't translate from the ground up. If anyone is fluent in Mandarin and notices an error, I would be happy to edit the subtitles. This is also my first attempt at subtitling a video, so I apologize in advance if the timing, or anything else, seems a bit off.) Tadpoles Looking For Their Mama (also known by a variety of other names, including Tadpoles Look For Mother and Where is Mama?) is a Chinese animated short, co-directed by Te Wei and Tang Cheng, and released in 1960. This was the first film to successfully utilize brush-painting animation, which the animators at Shanghai Animation Film Studio had worked tirelessly to develop starting in the late 1950s. Although most sources credit studio director Te Wei with inventing the technique, some believe that more credit is due to animators A Da and Duan Xiaoxuan. Whatever the case, this film amazed audiences in China and around the world. It won awards at several prestigious festivals, including Locarno, Cannes, and Annecy, among others.
