Orangestriped Oakworm #shorts #caterpillar
This cutie is the Orangestriped Oakworm aka Orange-tipped Oakworm. Info about them is in the description of this YouTube short.
Also available on Tiktok.
@the-named-anon submitted: I found this pretty moth on my door the other day! There was another one a bit away. Found in [location removed] (would you mind removing that?)
I loved the blue near their head!
I also saw this moth, (different time) same location, it’s body was like a burnt orange color, and the wings were a dull pink/purple with a singular white spot on them. (I’m sorry the photos are out of focus, it kept focusing on the screen in front of the moth ;-;)
That first moth is very beautiful!!! It’s a giant leopard moth. One of my favorite native species. The second is an oakworm moth in Anisota, but I can’t say which one without seeing the wing pattern better. Both great friends! Thank you for sharing :)

Anisota stigma (Spiny Oakworm) is one of the cutest Saturniids in the pine barrens. These moths, named for their voracious appetites as caterpillars, can occasionally become pests. The adults can be found from May to July and the larvae can carry on until September. #anisota #anisotastigma #spinyoakworm #oakworm #moth #saturniidae #entomology #lepidoptera #igclub_butterfly #igcb_mothmondays #insects_of_our_world
Found in Idaho, North Carolina, and Florida. RIP to dead butterfly we found on the porch.
Oh some very nice pals! The first is a western tarnished plant bug. A true bug and a true friend. The caterpillar looks like a yellow-striped oakworm or an orange-tipped oakworm. They can look pretty much identical as caterpillars so I have no idea how people ever tell them apart. And finally RIP to the luna moth. Hope it lived a good long moth life. Thanks for sharing these dudes!
Pretty moth boye found on my driveway! Could you maybe tell me what it could be? I’m in Georgia (so southeast us) if that’s any help.
Very pretty indeed! Definitely in the genus Anisota, maybe Anisota peigler since that’s the most common in your area. Good little fuzzy pal, though! Thanks for submitting! As always, submissions don’t count towards the one (1) nice bug per day.
