i primarily use magma.com and the "soft" brush at 3-4px thickness. when i want to color, i set the opacity of the brush to 100% and increase the hardness of the circle

i don't really know what that is! and i've heard there is restrictive rules on characters and stuff. I'll leave my chubby-enjoying self out of it and give gift art on my own time.
What would you say are your upper and lower limits in terms of comforts around drawing characters of certain sizes? What's the largest you'll go? What's the smallest? What would be your most comfy size to draw?
if you mean size in terms of how much to soften them up, at a base I'm obviously pretty comfortable drawing thin characters but I prefer to draw at least somewhat soft shapes.
For how large I'd go, well, it makes me feel nice to add a bit extra and I can certainly get a little carried away sometimes hehe, my favorite is a kind of size where a character seems almost soft as can be before they'd start to really be encumbered. But, on the right day, limits of mobility aren't enough for how much I love to see a character get to simply soften up and enjoy themself 🍰
Though, I definitely do sortof lose interest when size gets to the point of losing definition of the character, without bending the shapes so drastically that everything loses its weight. A blob that nearly fills out a room can kind of be fun for playing with the weighty shapes alone, but it is where I'm losing interest. It's not as cute and comfy as a size more easily hugged and cuddled. 💜
Please can you show us how you draw slugcats? The way you draw them makes them look 3d and you seem to have a good understanding of shape and volume
I'd love to do some things that go over my general thought process, in the future! but I'm afraid when it comes to 3D looks and volume, that's not something thats easy to just make a quick tutorial on. The way I draw is mostly free from any types of assisting tools or particular shortcuts, I just have spent a lot of time thinking about and focusing on aspects of art I like (volume, perspective, shape) from art I see, and apply them as I doodle for myself. I use the same basic ideas about horizon line and vanishing points as you'd find in any simple perspective overview on youtube. and my anatomy knowledge is loose, but mostly taken from reference books like Vilppu or Morpho series. A complex organic shape like a creature or any of their features (face, etc) is at first difficult to fit into perspective, but if you try to draw in a more impressionistic way instead of getting too bogged down by the techniques themselves, i think it ends up easily coming together. If anybody would like to see my actual drawing process in real time or for me to write out a little run-down of the order in which i do things, I may do that some time later when i gots the time
