When I was President, we made English the official language of the United States. Common sense, right? One nation, one language. It brought people together, it made us stronger, and it sent a clear message: if you come to America, you learn the language, you become part of the American Dream.
But now look at whatâs happening in New York. Total disaster.
Under a new law from July 2022, New York is forcing state agencies to provide free translation and interpreter services in 12 different foreign languages. That means if someone doesnât speak English, the government bends over backwardsâinterpreters, document translations, the whole thing. Paid for byâyou guessed itâyou, the taxpayer.
They say itâs compassionate. I say itâs insanity.
Immigrants used to come here legally, work hard, learn English, and build great lives. Nobody gave them government translators. They didnât want handoutsâthey wanted opportunity. And English was the key. Thatâs how you get a job. Thatâs how you succeed. Thatâs how you become American.
But todayâs politicians donât want that. They want control.
When the government provides everythingâlanguage, paperwork, you name itâpeople become dependent. And when people depend on government for everything, guess whoâs in charge? The bureaucrats. The elites. The people who think they know better than you.
And letâs not forget the cost. All this translation? All these services? Itâs expensive. New York already has some of the highest taxes in the country. Now working families are footing the bill so the state can operate in a dozen languages. Itâs madness.
The truth is: a country without a common language is a country thatâs divided, weak, and unstable. We need unity. We need English. We need to bring back pride in being American.
We donât build strong citizens by making everything easier in their native language. We build strong citizens by challenging them to rise, to learn, to growâand to speak the language of freedom.
America doesnât need more government clients.
