I was there. 17 years ago the World Trade Center towers came tumbling down. I had been living on the East Coast. On that day, I happened to be commuting in on a bus from Jersey into Manhattan on my way to music school. I looked up at the sky...it was such beautiful day. I was working on a song I had written and was busy charting out its sheet music. As I got closer into the city... I gazed out again to look up at the Big Apple sky, but this time, my eyes landed on gray smoke pouring out from one of the towers that was on fire. Almost in that same instant, my attention had locked onto this one plane that had started making a noticable, yet and odd U-turn heading towards the 2nd tower. Though I didn't know at the time, all the world would go on to discover that the horrific act was deliberate. Flames burst open wide with its smoke consuming the atmosphere. Eye wide, frozen in disbelief I needed to be pinched in case it was all a dream. Somehow I knew it wasn't. All the people on my bus were in a weird state of quiet shock. And even though that was the mood..all passengers were also insistent that bus driver turn the bus around and not head into the NYC tunnel. But it was too late! The bus had already begun to enter the tunnel into the city. There was no turning back. Once in the city we were immediately escorted off the bus and the entire city and everybody in it went on lock down. Nothing & no one could get in or leave out! I rushed to call my mom. From that moment forward we all know the details of the devastation that happened. I would spend (at least) the next 17 plus hours attempting to make my way off the island of NY. There were mass numbers of people roaming around & frantically holding up and passing out flyers with people faces and phone numbers attached. Desperate was there quest to know if we had seen their loved ones. In the solemn midst of chaos, scores of bloodied people walked down the street, attired in tattered ash-filled covered clothes and no shoes. And just like that...the landscape of life in the Americas would be forever changed. And so was I. 😧 #911 #911Neverforgotten #worldtradecenter #Groundzero #NYCTradeCenter https://www.instagram.com/p/BnmIZ7JHB8T/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1myphh30n8y6d
