NYC 468: How and Why
This street photography project is a quick guide to NYC's diverse neighborhoods. I went to every subway station in NYC, which includes all boroughs except Staten Island. My goal was to look at this city through an urban culture lens. I hope my pictures demonstrate the range in diversity, class, race, and geography throughout the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. Please enjoy, share, and feel free to comment! Thank you!
My process was simple. I would take the subway to the end of a train's line, such as Pelham Bay Park for the 6 train, and walk along the train tracks taking pictures all over the neighborhood. The subway stations served as a guide and checkpoints for me to rest. I'd walk for four to six hours every weekend and then spend Sundays editing and posting the photos on this tumblr. I used a Lumix Lx7 with a Leica Lens. That's it!
*Although my tally says 442, I've been to all 468. NYC has 421 subway stations if you count "complex" stations as one station. For example, I counted Union Square as one station when it's actually three stations.*
