New York City. The last time I was there before this time was March 2011. I was 17-18 and I hated it. I hated the crowds, I hated the people, I hated how cold it was. I was forced to see every tourist attraction there was, and some were pretty cool. Being on top of the Empire State Building overlooking one of the most famous cities in the U.S.? Super cool. Seeing the organized chaos unfold at Grand Central terminal? Pretty cool. But I was okay never coming back.
Fast forward, 11/7-11/11 2017. I didn’t want to love it, I tried not to love it. But walking down the roads of Brooklyn, hopping on the metro to Manhattan. I loved all the beautiful red bricked walls, black balconies scaling the sides of every apartment building and gyro trucks parked on every other block with friendly smiling faces behind the counter. Walking through Central Park, seeing my favorite colored leaves--golden with specks of green left over from last season. Walking through Hell’s Kitchen enticed by happy hour after happy hour and .99 cent pizzas.
I never thought I’d love any city as much or more than I love San Francisco. I never thought there’d be any city out there with more to do and more to love than where the Golden Gate bears its majestic pillars. But feeling the fresh crisp air brush against my cheeks (although I know late winter sucks and summer is humid has hell) was a feeling I hadn’t felt before. I love New York.
It’d be great to live there. I already have dope ass potential house mates...but the timing isn’t the best. But when else will I be in my mid twenties, thirsting for the energy of a city like New York again? Maybe within the next year or two. Maybe.
