Lupine: What does your name mean? Why is that your name?
I looked it up and Kelsey either means “ships victory” or “fierce”. Neither of these meanings came into play when deciding my name. To explain why it’s my name should be interesting since it is my chosen name after realizing I was trans, it should have some super rich and elegant history to it for me to have chosen it for myself. No, I have a much dumber reason than that.
See, (and I’m about to say my deadname but it’s fine) my birth name was Hudson, which was a fine enough name except it’s more commonly a last name, and my actual last name is more commonly a first name, so teachers constantly mixed them up when calling roll or whatever, which was made trickier because my last name is also, typically, a girls name. I was a boy in school getting constantly accidentally called a girls name which wasn’t great at the time, now I would’ve preferred it obv, but I still years away from realizing I was trans then. And in case you hadn’t figured it out, yes, my birth name was Hudson Kelsey and now I go by my “mixed up” name Kelsey Hudson, the meaning to me lies in the sort of poetic ending to that name I constantly got accidentally called in my younger years, now being used deliberately by me.
