When I woke up at 5pm yesterday (after sleeping through my 3pm alarm) I looked outside to see the parking lot is covered in two feet of snow. I called work hoping someone could pick me up, but was told that no drivers were going out because the roads were “impassable.” So I layered up and went out to walk the 2 miles to the hospital. After a false start (walked to the bottom of my hill to realize I didn’t have my badge), several bear falls, and two police SUVs driving past me despite my waving, some stranger stopped when I was about halfway and asked if I wanted a ride. Without missing a beat, I said, “Yes, please!” I had never been so happy to see the hospital entrance!
