Alice Hunt believed [the use of St Edward's crown] was a deliberate choice, as the visual link with St Edward articulated Anne's lawful right to rule. Joanna Laynesmith supported this view, asserting that the use of regalia in this way emphasised a positive difference between Anne and most other queens.

In 1535, Anne accused Francis Weston of spending too much time flirting with Margaret Shelton, and not only ignoring his own wife, but also keeping Margaret away from Henry Norris. Weston countered by saying that Norris was more interested in Anne herself than in Margaret. He continued that he loved a lady much more than either his wife or Margaret Shelton. When Anne asked who it was, Weston replied: 'It is yourself', at which Anne 'defied' him, denying such a love. That kind of flirting was part of a romantic chivalric game that Anne had herself introduced to Court. Her old mentor, Margaret of Austria, had been highly adept at such things, but Anne seems to have been far less successful. While such behaviour might work for a single, widowed princess of high rank and impeccable reputation, it did not work for a flirtatious, lowborn queen with a jealous husband.

As Queen, Anne was a fierce presence in the royal court. She was politically astute and encouraged her ladies-in-waiting to be well-read and follow her lead. According to legend, Henry wrote 'Greensleeves' for his beloved Anne, and she certainly did enjoy dressing in that colour. In 1530 Henry purchased a gown of green damask for Anne, and in 1535, he gifted her an incredible amount of green satin and green cloth of gold. In the Queen's quarters, Anne decorated her bedding and furniture with the same colour and purchased green clothing for her daughter Elizabeth. This may have been personal preference but it may also have been in homage to her new position as Tudor Queen, as green and white were the Tudor house colours.
