REPOSTING THIS ENTIRE POST FROM @powerhousespiritnc. Had a moment today where a PWI cheerleader tried to mock the stomp and shake style of cheerleading! This style has become a movement and is used in traditional schools too. It's not just a black thing! One of our best at my alma mater was a white girl and a Latina who could shake the flood gates open!! Yes some HBCUs give scholarships and not PWIs give scholarships. But because of my HBCU Cheerleading experience I now have real friends, have traveled the great nation and been given opportunities so great that most could only dream! Stomp and Shake has opened businesses and created a dynamic that expresses a talent unlike any other! Don't knock what you don't understand. So before you downgrade it know that once before traditional cheerleading was a joke. Most PWIs didn't implement until the mid fifties and even then women were not the focus of the sport oops activity as it was then. Evolution doesn't just mean creating a stunt or tumbling pass. It's the evolvement of adding grater dynamics and genres to the sport. Hence: D-League to the NBA. Or Hip-Hop being brought to the UCA/UDA championships within the last 15 years. Cheers port has a division and so does Cheer LTD for a reason. So before you discourage know it's more than just shaking a tail feather and making a beat with your feet. It's a style that lights up a room and gets a crowd on their feet. If done correctly it create a situation as my alma mater had that people don't just come to games because they love football or basketball. Let a game go down and Cheer Phi not show up... There will be issues!!! So I encourage all of you coaches who have been discouraged from implementing don't be. There is a platform here for a reason!!! Remember RAP MUSIC was written off and now it's the largest music genre in the world. #icheer #istomp #ishake #istomonshake #powerhousespiritnc #nationalstompnshake #nsscdc #hbcucheer #blackgirlscheer #BCCDC
