"This is a courtesy call, Bart Allen." Batman stood in the middle of Happy Harbor with his arms crossed and his lenses opaque. "Young Justice is being allowed to operate, so do not forget that the JLA has its eyes on you. All of you. You kids have turned it into a habit to make dangerous enemies. Keep that up, and we will be forced to retract our authorization of this team, and it will be permanently disbanded. I am saying this directly to you, and I would imagine that you can guess why. Tread carefully, Impulse."
MOST of the bat’s babbling fell on deaf ears - intentionally deaf ears, as Bart was more than hamming up the fact he wasn’t paying Batman much mind . he’d found the nearest surface to lean against, pretending to fall asleep several times . ( though, he proved unable to keep up the FACADE — eyes continually peeked open . )
but soon, his eyes blinked back open, and squinted at the older hero . I AM SAYING THIS DIRECTLY TO YOU . he could GUESS why ? he didn’t have to guess . somebody told him the same thing just about every day .
❝ oh, right, ‘cause I’m the screwup, that’s a classic . hey, i know i’m just the dumb, reckless one, but correct me if I’m wrong — isn’t dealing with DANGEROUS ENEMIES — ❞ those last two words were said in a mock lowered, gravelly voice . ❝ — the POINT of being superheroes ? we fight the baddies and keep the people who can’t safe . ❞
smile forced across his face, Bart zips to Batman’s side, tucked just behind him with his cape draped over him, head popping out .
❝ I do appreciate the courtesy call, Batman, but I have to insist that YOU HANG UP FIRST . ❞ and he steps out from the cape with a burst of speed, sending it cascading in the wind he leaves behind . he then vaguely gestures into the distance, waving him away .
