Regarding that one NRA video that’s been making the rounds
Scary as it is, that’s precisely the point. The NRA lobby keeps gun sales high by exploiting and exacerbating our political divisons so that half the country calls for gun control and scares the other half into buying lots of guns. It’s nothing new -- just taking advantage of the opportunity of lots of video footage from protests. It exists because usually gun sales go down when a Republican becomes president, because gun sales rise when a Democrat (oh snap the Democrats are going to restrict guns buy guns now now now) is president. After an 8-year sales high driven by the existence of a Black Democrat in the highest office in the land, a white conservative man in the office would usually cause sales to drop. But the gun industry grew 158% over eight years of Obama and it doesn’t want to shrink now. So they have to keep sales up by scaring hell out of Leftists and Rightists alike. It’s part of the redstate/bluestate narrative that works to keep Americans divided and easily controlled in the absence of genuine threats from foreign armies. If a bunch of Liberals get shot, well, the NRA lobby wouldn’t mind that even if the rest of the NRA would... But it’s worth remembering that we measure murder statistics according to “X in 100,000″ because of how rare it is around here for human beings to actually kill each other. We talk a lot of bluff and bluster, gas the jews, kill a nazi, blather blather blather, very few people in this land of peace and plenty can actually bring themselves to murder without a huge amount of passion or desperation. You gotta join a police force or an army if you want to learn how to kill coldly. For most folks. Some do it without training or qualms, and we call those people serial killers, and they’re even more rare than your average murderer. The NRA lobby is looking to sell as many guns as it can, never mind if anyone’s going to use them. The use is moot once the sale is made. The video is a sales pitch for an industry whose machines have to be built well to get sales, so they can’t rely on planned obsolescence like Apple Computer. It’s a hard sell, a scare-them-silly approach just like Alex Jones and his survivalist gear. If you’re a leftist and you get scared and you call for gun control, that’s the point. If you’re a rightist and you get scared and you want to buy more guns, that’s ALSO the point. If you decide that maybe the people who you’ve been told are your political enemies, aren’t actually a real threat, well...that’s what they don’t want you to think. That would deflate their whole sales pitch.
