I was very intrigued by this week’s plenary. I came in very excited to see what Caitlin Kenney had to say about women in the media and an example of what an impact they were having and I was very surprised by what she had to say. In a world in which women are constantly played down upon and not given jobs, she described how confidence and empowerment can get a woman far in life. Her trip to Bangladesh was very interested. We can see that women are often downplayed there also, in which men are given the better jobs, but I also found out that Bangladesh was a changing country. Women, especially the girl she interviewed, were starting to get better jobs each and everyday, such as in the textile industry and were given more opportunities in the workforce. Although these girls were struggling, I saw that, they too felt what others felt, love. Although they did not have much in life, they loved others and each other and were happy with what they had. Although Caitlin felt very bad for staying with these girls with equipment worth more than these girls could ever imagine, she felt that she was doing them a favor, because she was spreading awareness about the world through the media.Â
I really appreciated how she told us to have individuality in such a world and to be empowering. Although she did not know what she was doing when she first started her show, she kept trying and ended up being successful at the end of it all. Her message to be empowering and inspiring really spoke to me the most!Â
