How I imagine the NPCs!
• This is just the way I personally imagine the NPCs and the little rules I give myself when designing my OCs. This is in no way telling you how to design or imagine your characters. Have fun and I hope you enjoy this post!
Details to keep in mind!
- Most NPCs walk around like this! These low-poly bodies help NPCs blend in and create the crowd.
- Two main colors, it's very rare for an NPC to deviate from these colors. If an NPC does, they won't appear on screen with the new color.
- All NPCs are small and are usually around 4’0” - 4’5”.
- Their designs do not have extreme curves, if their design has a curve it is a very soft curve.
Facial Features:
- When not in the low-poly form the NPCs have faces. The face’s features are square/sharp. Normally lacks a mouth.
The Mouth:
- NPCs have a false mouth. When ‘opened’ the mouth has a solid backing.
Expressions:
- While most usually keep a neutral face the NPCs have expressions. The mouth doesn't always appear even while speaking.
-NPCs speak in crowd speech: they make various 8-bit sounds to communicate.
Younglings:
Infant > 2 months > 5 months > 1 year > 3 years+
- In my writing, the NPCs do not age just like other characters, but if you like to imagine they do that's cool!
NPC Complexity:
Most NPC designs are not very complex, they can be but it's not common. This does not change the simplicity of their low-poly form.
