She was tired, and wet, soaked through to the bone after the short burst shower that had recently occurred. Her feet ached, and her clothes left a chill on her skin with their dampness. If she stayed this wet for much longer, the threat of a cold would make itself present, and in this environment, that could be deadly.
Trudging through the thicket of trees, brushing sticks from her face and leaves from her dress, Charlie was beginning to give up on the thought of finding somewhere safe to rest for the encroaching night.
It was terrifying, the darkness. Ever since her release from that blasted throne, she had been scared stiff by the swirling, inky black. Afraid that it may take her back into its cold, twisted clutches, and force her to repeat the hell she had been subjected to for what felt like eternity.
The hell she had been subjected to by the foolishness of that man.
She could almost see him now, lounging about on a log, tormenting her existence with his presence. A reminder of what she had lost when she came here.
That couldnât be right. There was something so real about his appearance. No shadows itching at the corners of his visage, no transparency to indicate she was going insane.
No. This man was real, and the former assistant stopped dead in her tracks, freezing up on the spot with eyes wide in...fear?Â
âIâll be seeing you soon...â. Her own words rang in her ears, bitter and hateful. But when confronted with the man she loved, the man who had trapped her here, and who had become twisted and corrupt with his time on that throne...
She didnât know how to feel.
