Nova (2013); issue 1
Jeph Loebs writing style has something about it that i absolutely love! When I found out that he wrote the new Nova I knew that I had to pick up an issue. Sadly, I didn't find issue one until just recently and I held off reading until I found it. I got both the variant and the frist printing and they were both for a dollar a piece! (sale was going on at "Read More Comics" [http://www.readmorecomics.com] on free comic book day!) The artwork on both covers are amazing, as well as the artwork within the comic. Its very in depth. REVIEW: 8.5 out of 10
I enjoyed that it had an introduction of the original NOVA and it wasn't just information that was thrown in- it was a story being passed from Jesse (original NOVA) to his son, Sam. It def. gave it a little more meaning. The story starts off cliche, I guess you could say...BUT a refreshing cliche. A lot of times writers try to be weird and out of the box to grasp the attention of their reader- but I feel like simple things with great flow and dialogue is what hooks me in the most. Its all about the delivery!Â
Anyways....back to the comic. The storyline gets pretty emotional in this issue, giving a good connection between all the characters and to where they basically stand in this comic. Typical son hating father for being unstable and ruining his (son) reputation in school. Son blames father- Father disappears- Son looks for father- Random heroes ( Guardians of the Galaxy) show up.
I thought it was a little slow in the beginning, but it started to climb towards the end, leaving the reader with a cliff hanger. Definitely can tell the second issue will have a lot more action and drama. Looking forward to issue 2!
