Staying true to your word!!
Iāve realized that so many people SAY they are going to do something but never do. Itās become a nasty habit of society. I never get excited anymore over promises. Itās more likeĀ āiāll be excited/happy/relieved/grateful/etc when I actually see itā. Once someone breaks a first promise or doesnāt deliver on a commitment, I begin to lose faith and trust.I think thatās because when someone used to promise me something, I would get this false sense of safety. I only say false because most promises orĀ commitmentsĀ were broken. Itās like a momentĀ ofĀ āwow I really canāt wait for that, iām so excited. Oh? Your actually not going to act on what you said? Ok. Minus one trust pointā, and then it eventually became a case ofĀ ādonāt even promise or say your going to do something, just prove it by actually doing itā.
Ā I donāt think most people do this on purpose, in fact most of their intentions are really good, but canāt people just be more mindful before verbally committing to something? Maybe because I tend to keep my word and not promise more than I can deliver, I just think others would do the same. Maybe I expect too much, and iām more than willing to work on that, but still, wouldnāt it be easier if everyone just kept their word? Like what about that is actually so hard? If you donāt intend to follow through, donāt say something. Or if something genuinely changes, let someone know, and if you tend to forget, find a way to remind yourself if the person (family member/friend/colleague/partner) is important enough to you, because believe me, broken promises or failure to follow through actually hurts people deeply. Whats worse is you never want to say to someoneĀ āYou promised/committed/offered your energy and time to (whatever), and you havenāt done itā, because you donāt want to, nor should you have to ask people to be loyal to what comes out of their own mouths.Ā
Honesty, trust, loyalty = everything. Iām kind of over seeing these beautiful, valuable and appreciated traits misused or neglected completely. Maybe everyone should ask themselves more oftenĀ āwhat have I promised or said I would do recently that I may have forgotten about?ā. Chances are weāve all at some point forgotten our own words, and the impact a simple memory could have on anotherās life is tremendous.Ā
