I do not have the words

I cannot begin to fathom

What is this love amongst all who have loved before us and all the lovers yet to come?

May we just sit together and cherish the stillness,

Can we be quiet together?

Just for this moment in time

Through the dusty orange leaves and the

Sticky pinecones

I wish to stuff my pockets with the fruits of autumn.

The world is dying dying dying

Or is it just falling asleep?

I will see you again, my friend

Crystal touch

Weathered hands and a smile that

The sun burns out

And the sky turns dark

And all the beautiful things hide beneath the earth

Because I will hold you through the darkness,

I will keep you warm.

I will bring you the sun.

Well, we tried -

Slow to light, windy and damp.

We stuffed it with paper and the news and the cereal box

We piled on twigs and bricks and breathed life into it, pleaded with it, cursed it,

Another cereal box, more cardboard,

"What about this stick?" "No, it's too wet",

Until the flames

Caught

And burned, and burned, and burned.

The wood igniting, ash drifting, and my heart caught aflame with it because you

Smiled at me.

Who could help but smile back at you?

The mere thought makes me glow.

The fire burned, and burned, and burned, and when you looked at me

I burst into flames.

This body,

Brimming with beaches and colored sand dunes

My body the warfront,

my body, the womb

This body,

The motherland

And ocean too

The blues of seclusion

The bliss of solitude
