Three days passed
And I haven't bought any clothing. Today is day four. Did you know that average North Americans buy around 64 new clothing items each year? That's only five new things a month. I can see how it could quickly add up.
I've cut back on purchases. I'm not buying books (hello, library) and jewellery/accessories I already own so many, and gifts for people - I'm majorly cutting back and sending them my love in other ways.
Guess what? I already have so many coats and purses! So as much as I have impeccable good taste, I will not be buying these items.
“All or Nothing” Thinking
Life is not black and white. Telling myself that I will “never buy anything ever again” is setting me up for disaster. Careful, conscious purchases are ok. Some things DO improve our lives. But impulsive buying isn’t the way to go.
If you must shop, do it carefully.
If you must buy, do it with purpose.
And always, always ask yourself: Is there another way?

Asking myself, "Would I wear this when I retire?" Makes me aware of the things I'm wanting to buy solely for work or a certain type of status. Buying clothes for work is like buying paint and freshening up your cell walls. Sure it makes it nicer in the cage, but it doesn't help you get out.
