to the atheists out there, the never religious and the ex-religious, the ones who are shooting down people (naturally, mostly catholics) who are showing concerns over the next pope and how this is bad for global politics. the ones out there commenting on said posts like "but he was a transphobe and god isn't real so who cares" and patting yourselves in the back and you're wrong. hear it from a fellow atheist, you're wrong. you're being immature chasing that pat on the back making it about you when it's not. it is, like many catholics are pointing out, about global politics. it's as easy to become a selfish, egotistical atheist as it is to become a selfish, egotistical religious person. if you care at all about the global wreck the US is causing, this isn't the time to channel your right-wing youtuber gotcha moment (spoiler alert: the less gotcha, the better atheist you become). atheism 101 is looking back at the type of atheist you were at 14 and being embarrassed. it should be common sense you can agree with someone on something even if you disagree with them on a major part of personality.
I'm not saying you should start praying if you don't want to, I don't want to either and won't. but disrespecting random religious people over a legitimate concern they're showing and you clearly aren't because you're busy climbing the high horse? yeah, in atheism 101 that's the description under "how not to be a prick". always the loud gotcha activists, never the ones focused on societal change. see? you become precisely what you rightfully criticize. multiple governments are having meetings about current events as I write this. it is not about you and that's okay. leave the pats in the back for when we don't have a powerful city state potentially supporting nazism all over the world. it is not about you.
