I Have What?!
For almost 2 years now, I suffered with stomach pain. It hurt so bad that I couldn’t do anything, I’ll never forget the first time that pain struck so hard, I thought I was going to die.
The night before, I had gone out for dinner & drinks, and the next day was hell. I thought it was a hangover, but there’s no way, that the pain from a hangover could have been THAT bad! We’re talking cold sweat, stomach pain in the upper abdomen, and constant throwing up. I was in fetal position at work. Nothing helped; I tried Advil, 7-Up, Sprite, even an omeprazole (I thought it might have been reflux)!
I went home early from work and spent what felt like eternity, hugging the toilet and keeping my body on the cold ceramic tiles.
From that point, I told myself that it was from the drinking & the late night dinner! I stopped drinking and stopped eating so late, and then I was fine. The pain never came back.. until, one day I had spicy food (which I always have & always loved). Pain came back & she was a bitch! Then I swore off spicy food.
Fast forward to 2 months ago, I was eating something greasy, and it brought the pain back, about 2 hours later! It hurt so bad! Again, I swore off greasy food. Then we went to have KBBQ (all you can eat) for our anniversary, and 2 hours after, pain struck again - Swore off eating too much! I had something salty, and I kid you not, pain again!
Everything I loved to eat, caused pain! It was driving me crazy. I had given up alcohol, spicy food, greasy food, eating too late, salty food, and eating too much and enough was enough! I went to the doctor, gave him my symptoms, and recommended I have an endoscopy. We thought maybe they were ulcers. Had the endoscopy and everything looked fine, no ulcers, nothing. Then he scheduled an ultrasound - and low and behold, GALLSTONES! (Damnit!)
I have a meeting with the surgeon on the 16th and they’re going to decide if I should have my gallbladder removed, and I have to be honest, I’m a little scared. I don’t mind changing the way I eat, because with the running & eating better (and less!), I’ve lost some weight, which I needed to do. I’m just worried about being put under and having to be cut open.
Anyone out there who had their gallbladder removed? How was the healing process? How’s your eating/diet now?
