â â a memory that may or may not have happened
It was 5 years ago. Querl was about 12-13 at the time; his first year as the Legionâs chief scientist. Heâd applied under the name of Brainiac 5 to redeem the Brainiac name from generations of wrongdoing and douchebaggery, so he could fight the stigmas and take the name back. Heâd met Superman shortly after. He brought his fellow Legionnaires, Bouncing Boy and Saturn Girl with him to Smallville to collect the young Kryptonian for his help.
It was now that he saw in flashes a hot yellow rock in the center of a cavern. He didnât recognize his body. He fades out.
âThe Last Son is my friendâŠâ
Where was he? He could feel his voice breaking in and out with his consciousness. Superman looked so distressed. He canât hear the Kryptonian voicing his distress as his radiation proof-suit begins to melt. He fades out.
He makes his way toward the yellow stone. Surely the radiation from that stone is what his comrades were trying to expose him to. He fades out.
â12th level mindâŠI am Brainiac 5..â The flashes of consciousness become more intense until finally he fades out and he sees the ground coming in fast before everything becomes a blur, but he clearly remembers Supermanâs words.
âDonât give up, Brainy. Youâll make it!â
He vaguely remembers Superman lifting his disembodied from the ground and struggling to carry it closer to the hot glowing rock. He sounds like heâs struggling. Querl vaguely remembers a feeling of guilt before Superman extends his arm out as far as he can with Querlâs head in hand. As he approached the rock he faded out again and shut down.
To this day he still canât recall how much of it was a wild dream, but he came to again in the caver back to his old self and saw Superman still exhausted under the red sun of Zoon and the bright hot cavern.
He still canât shake the feeling it was a strange dream even 5 years later, today.
