the character everyone gets wrong: Aang, obviously. I have several other asks about the worst fandom takes which are also about Aang. I do NOT understand how fandom can get the titular character SO WRONG so often (though I have a feeling it has to do with shipping, and also THIS excellent meta which goes into the many stereotypes people wrongly or unfairly apply to Aang (although, warning, it's zukaang-centered but a lot of it applies to Aang as a character even without the ship), among other things.

19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like... OKAY SO this was one of the asks that made me ALMOST consider not posting this game hahaha because there... isn't really anything I'm mad/ashamed/horrified of liking? I don't (or at least I try not to) place value judgments on tropes or ships or fics or any of that, and I accept that the things I like, I like them for a reason (whether it's because it helps me work out my own shit or because it's just fun/interesting to imagine a fictional scenario like that where no one in real life is getting hurt or whatever). I guess in the beginning of my fandom days, I would've said smut, but I've also (obviously) accepted that so 🤷🏻‍♀️

22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores...

The Serpent's Pass episode where Aang just casually, not-so-subtly tells Katara he wants to have a family with her and she tearfully and HAPPILY agrees/accepts because SHE LOVED HIM EVEN THEN, YOUR HONOR. Ok, sorry. Maybe that's just my favorite scene, haha, but fandom definitely sleeps on Katara's feelings for Aang which are evident THROUGHOUT THE SHOW if one ever cares to look for non-verbal cues (and even verbal ones, honestly, just maybe not as obvious as Aang's). Obviously their love grows and changes as the show progresses but girl was ready to leave her tribe for him after knowing him for HOURS... I don't understand what's so hard to get, hahaha

this is so cute, thank you northern!! i haven't written fic in so long, fingers crossed i'll find my fic inspiration again soon 💛

five of my favorite fics, in no particular order:

this thing of darkness (i acknowledge mine); it's flash-centric with mj/flash, venom!flash, acadec shenanigans, and not-so-secret identities. this fic is 110% self-indulgent and im so happy i wrote it! (bonus fun fact: my partner read this fic before we were dating, and let it be known that he is not really a fanfic reader but he liked me and wanted to engage with my interests. AND YET. even after he read the fic and complimented me on it, i still had no idea he had a crush on me 💀 I MAY BE STUPID—)

children will listen; technically a series of two stories, these fics explore waterbending allegorically to language through the perspectives of kanna and katara. these were emotional stories for me to write that struck many people deeply, creating one of the times i've felt most connected to the atla fandom

why'd you have to go and make things so complicated?; another series (i keep cheating with this list lmao!!), it contains three fics; these are my flash-centric stories that explore his character, his family, his relationship with the acadec gang, and eventually some self-indulgent peterflash. the series includes There's a Fine, Fine Line, my most popular fic that i think played a role in popularizing the parallels between flash and tony as characters in the mcu fandom and in general made a lot of people very excited to see flash treated with care and understanding. giving a smooch to everyone who has read that fic 💛

broken pieces still belong; a love letter to katara's character, she deserves the world and this fic will always hold a special place in my heart for giving me a chance to explore her grief, her rage, her kindness, her trauma, and her ability to forgive

12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.

Ok so I’ve currently only got one proper WIP (the third part of Eternally Yours) but I have a few that I’m getting ready to write afterwards! The one I’m most excited to get started on is gonna be a simple fic about the cloud family (dunno if that’s a universal term but I ALWAYS refer to the kataang family like this in my head) when they discover that kya is a water bender, how that affects bumi and how kataang deal with it. It’ll be my first fic about the kataang family (thanks again for that request all that time ago @itsmoonpeaches 😭) so I’m excited to finally explore their dynamic (as AMAZING parents)

19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?

Usually canon-compliant fics for the most part but I don’t really discriminate that much. AUs are GREAT!!! If it’s atla I usually stick to fics that include bending so perhaps in between is my fav?? But this absolutely incredible modern au sans bending about kataang as two separate single parents called cumulus and nimbus by @coyotelemon is one of my favourite fanfics EVER, if not one of my favourite pieces of writing I’ve read in years!!! it’s honestly just so perfect, I have nothing more to say (though it does have smut, sorry northern). You know I’m starting to feel like I’m ranting without giving an answer?? Oops hahaha, ok I’m gonna say I prefer canon compliant for now because that’s the majority of what I read lol

He sighed. Aang didn’t want to run the risk of being too serious too soon, but he had to admit that when he thought of the future, he could see nothing except the one who held his heart in her hands, the very girl who sat by his side now, staring at him expectantly - desperately he hoped that look would never leave her eyes. “It’s just... you asked if I’d stay with you and... i will. Not only if you wanna go to the south pole, or the market, or anywhere else on the planet, but... always, okay?” he took both her hands in his and squeezed, turning to face her fully, and it was like her figure acted as a beacon of light in the dark. “I know I’m being all mushy, you can laugh if you want,” he chuckled softly and heard the light-hearted giggle of her own, “I just really hope you’ll stay with me, too, Katara.”

At his last words, she softened. Cheesy or not, he was everything and more to the girl. She had thoughts much like his - the difference was that Aang had the guts to say them out loud, and she would forever be grateful. “Of course, sweetie,” she smiled brightly, squeezing his hand right back to which the corners of Aang’s lips tugged upward in a toothy grin that shone with some kind of relief, the featherlight feeling of happiness making both their hearts sing a symphony that would be sung until the end of their days. “Whatever we do now, we’ll do together.”

gosh where to starttttttt???

I don't know that I have favorite authors per se (except for like literally everyone) but not like in the sense that I follow anyone super duper closely?? I'm a big fan of long (or long-ish) fics so when I find one I really like I will sometimes read some of the other stuff that that author has written as well, but the way I keep track of what I've read on ao3 is a HOT MESS (which is to say I have NO SYSTEM and its too late now to start one lol) and I frequently forget what I've read and from who. So its hard to pick a favorite 🙈

there are four long fics I've read that stand out as favorites of mine though!! And bonus, they are all written by delightful humans to boot, so that definitely qualifies for favorite author status.

@a-d-curtis Own Worst Enemy is just this beautiful tragic heartwarming heartbreaking breathtaking journey. One of those stories that, after you've read it, you have to sit and stare at a wall for a bit because it made you FEEL so much.

@theclockworkmonk The Morning After is hilarious and compelling and just an absolute riot. I started following it right when they picked it back up and OH MY GOD I am so glad I did. It was such a delight to get update emails for and the final chapter actually came out the morning of my friend's wedding (after we'd had a littttttle too much ~celebration~ the night before) and I thought that was just incredibly apropos.

@geek-fashionista Lucky Us was one of the first long fics I read in the Miraculous Ladybug fandom and it was absolutely everything I want out of an ml fic. The romance, the identity shenanigans, the "you've got mail but make it 100 times better and add pastries" of it all?? I recently re-read it because the happy feelings of the last chapter were just so so sweet and it was just as lovely the second time around. The way she writes Adrien in this fic is just perfect and it genuinely got me back into reading some more modern romance ~outside~ of fandom.

aaaaaand @itsmoonpeaches The Ghosts That We Knew is just an absolute masterclass in worldbuilding and suspense and the kataang of it all is just 🥺. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN when I read it... Like I have this distinct memory of reading it while standing in line at a shwarma place (and being very salty that I had to be INCONVENIENCED by basic human things like ~being hungry~ and ~driving five minutes to pick up takeout~ when all I wanted to do was keep reading.) I had to finish the chapter I was on once I got in my car because I could not bear to drive home home without doing so. My food got cold but I finshed that gd chapter and it was worth it.😤

🤯 personal character hc in WIP?

Ok lil context: this wip is part 3 of my kataang wedding fic SO my hc is that Aang actually has SO MUCH GAME — flashback to the secret dance party in the headband — Aang is not the nervous, blushing mess that he often times is around katara 🫢 (I really hope I answered this question correctly lol that is what a hc is right?)
