Middle child is expected to be more involved in helping and caring for their parents than other children, and it is also expected and highly encouraged that middle child will eventually decide to devote himself to his parents - to stay with them in their home after adulthood, to help them take care of them as they age, to take a vow of celibacy and be more pious and humble than others.

The Middle daughters most often begins to constantly wear veils and modest clothes by the time he turns 14. Parents are also expected to raise their middle child in a special way - maintaining good modesty and observing loving discipline, but at the same time showing affection.

Due to social expectations and religious pressure, middle children, especially daughters, do stay close to their parents after they reach adulthood and do not leave their father's house to take care of them.

Playa Dyrholaey

Close to the southernmost point of Iceland, this promontory's name roughly translates as "Door Hill", since behind the camera there is a famous rock out to sea with an arch in the middle of it that you can fly a plane through (first done in 1993). Here, however, I look north for this shot, towards the rest of Iceland, across black volcanic sand, and some of the most pitiless landscape in the world.
