heyy is it ok if i rant?? like im mostly kinda over it now. i know im gonna get pissed about it again so im probably wasting my one chance with submitting to this specific blog (tho ofc theres multiple). but idk. i feel like it lol. i will regret being repetitive later 👍 its fiiiiiine
also as a loveful aro i have tons of love in my heart. but that excess love is largely due to intense emotions. so i also have a lot of rage in my heart
uuhh ok so i do generally hate when people act like a canonically platonic friendship is somehow canonically a romantic relationship instead. but this one especially pisses me off bc like ok. character A, first of all, sucks at lying. and second of all, seems to be very fond of character B. when theyre seemingly about to die, this PRECISE interaction occurs, and i mean i am watching the video and replaying as we speak to make sure i am getting everything precisely accurate—
A: "[B], I've always loved you."
B: "What?"
A: "Like, platonically—"
anD THEN!! later on!! when they DONT die. due to some magic bubble thingie. theyre like uhh. and i DIRECTLY QUOTE
A: "That was my platonic friendship bubble, which is only activated by strong platonic love for my best friend, [B]! He's just so cool!"
and like i GUESS i can understand the argument that they were pushing it a bit. but also??? theres just no winning here is there??? no matter how much you love or hate another character, everyone will interpret it as romantic :/
and like this fandom generally agrees also that misgendering A, whose pronouns are they/them, is wrong to do. if you wont respect a fictional characters pronouns, whos to say you wont treat someone irl the same? which like... WHY DONT WE USE THE SAME LOGIC ON RELATIONSHIP LABELS??? they SAID its platonic, they dont seem nervous, theyre also shit at lying anyway so if it WERE a lie itd be way more obvious, so why are we accusing them of lying if we dont accuse their pronouns of being fake or anything???
its also kinda upsetting knowing that like the majority of the fandom is queer bc how come even in progressive spaces its like this? how come with such a large quantity of canonically trans and nonbinary characters, theres such a focus on shipping and obsession over the "lack" of canon romance? like uh yeah just a side rant here, theres only been like maybe two unrequited crushes total and nothing else thats canonically romantic and some people get really weird about that. sighhhh.
...also the whole thing with other pairings like when they said "was it casual when C saved D from the others and they moved onto an island together to build a new home and life together?" like no it wasnt casual but it wasnt romantic either. id do that with MY best friend. get a grip man
"E and F are totally lovers!!! its LITERALLY confirmed!!!" they use the term friend and once one of them even said "buddy, i'm home!" instead of "honey, i'm home!" ... all the creators said was that the ship was good, not that it was canon
gaaAAAAH I LOVE SHIPPING TOO BUT FUCK DUDE MOST SHIPPERS DRIVE ME NUUUUUUUUUUUTS /neg
where's that brennann lee mulligan quote about the whole 'being saved by the power of love' thing is really mean spirited and suggests that everyone who died deserved it because they just weren't loved enough
you're SO RIGHT about all of this. i can't think too hard about the treatment of shipping and of aros in fandom spaces because i start to get angry and want to kill these people for sport. we should be allowed to start killing these people for sport.
