Buffy's reaction to his question always made me wonder how she dealt with their breakup afterwards. In this scene, her immediate thought might have been about their breakup, before he clarified that he was referencing Xander and Anya’s wedding.

In Hell's Bells, she told him it did hurt to see him with someone else. And when breaking up with him, she showed more compassion and care, called him William and respected him as an actual person, like she did before they started sleeping together, when she didn’t need to be so defensive about their closeness.

Like she said later, she did have feelings for him, even though she did not call them "love", as she felt she could not trust him.

making her think she was never the slayer but just an insane girl wanting to feel special?? making her think her trauma was “fake”?? and that every single thing she has been through and done, her love and her loss and her LIFE all just her silly imagination stuck within four padded walls?? her DEAD MOM and DEADBEAT DAD showing up TOGETHER in these hallucinations after all she’s had to process (ie: his abandonment, her death, their divorce)??
