"Exhaustion"
There will be a tired so full of red veins and sore throats
it earns the name exhausted, emptied out.
You will feel smoky and like you are only discharge.
You are the left-overs, the forgotten so quick.
It is here in your no-body-ness.
In your I can barely see you.
That you will decide he has been gone from the ignition.
You should have known you were just a faint trail.
You by-product of time spent rolling together.
Remember you are air, exhausted one.
Up is the way you travel.
Part of the Interview I did with the Patriot Ledger
Q: Why slam poetry?
A: I didn’t write poems until about two years ago. I wrote snippets and short prose. I have always known about slam poetry, but I never participated. Writing is a solitary experience. It is rewarding to write something, walk into a room, get to share what you created and get an immediate response. It’s exciting and fuels a kind of creativity that makes the community very vibrant; people really push the boundaries of what they’re writing about. I learned how to write in ways I would never have approached prior to slam.
