June von Drake has always been destined for greatness.  As a daughter of Desmond von Drake, shrewd and accomplished owner of the Tipton Hotel, June grew up as one of the three princesses of the Tipton. There were tea parties in the grand ballrooms, midnight ice cream soirees with the kitchen staff, private tutors, and trips through the pageant circuits, the girls pampered by everyone like expensive poodles. But Desmond von Drake remained behind closed doors and out of reach– held hostage by business meetings and phone calls. Despite having a life served on a silver platter, June only wanted one thing: Daddy’s attention. She found it on the court. Desmond, a devoted tennis fan, bought a few tennis lessons for his daughters, expecting very little. But the first time June held a tennis racquet, she felt the last piece of herself slot into place– like she’d been missing an arm for the first six years of her life. She was small, fast, and brutal, chasing down every ball. Now, when Desmond sat down for the rare dinner, he asked June how her training was going. They had something to talk about.  Finally, June knew what she was supposed to do: dominate. Make history. Carve the von Drake name into the grass, clay, and concrete on every court around the globe. This goal became June’s axis, fixed in place no matter what else changed. When Desmond and Donna divorced and the girls were shipped off to a boarding school in Amsterdam, June kept her gaze locked on her future. After Desmond married again, June practiced harder and longer. When a psychic predicted June’s untimely death, June didn’t blink. It just meant world domination couldn’t come fast enough.   Then, two years ago, Desmond von Drake was crushed under the glittering weight of a chandelier in the Tipton Hotel in what was officially labeled as a ‘freak accident,’ the latest in a long string of freak accidents that plagued their family.  A week later, Daisy O’Doogle showed up at the funeral as their long-lost “aunt,” snatching the Tipton– and the von Drakes’ rightful inheritance– from under their noses.  This was the beginning of the end. June went to tennis camp anyway– determined to make her WTA debut before 19, like she promised herself, shrugging off her father jilting her sisters in favor of some Hollywood import. If she became a tennis champion, it wouldn’t matter. But by Christmas, June’s funds had dried up. Grasping for dollars, borrowing from friends, June spiraled deep into debt, rushed into her debut, and then crashed out at her first WTA tournament. After one full bottle of Daddy’s favorite scotch, a toilet full of puke, and a night crying herself raw, June identified both the culprit and the answer to all her problems: Daisy O’Doogle. Now, the von Drakes make their victorious return to Swynlake. June might be stepping away from the court, but she’s entering a different battlefield. This time, victory is paramount. The Tipton will belong to the three von Drake princesses– no matter who June has to crush along the way.

April von Drake has always been unremarkable.  The only things special about her, she shares with her two sisters: a triplet, beautiful and blonde, and a hotel heiress.  She will claim that this never bothered her. April was meant to be a storm of a girl. She likes the feeling of grit in her teeth, like the sand that makes the pearl. The kinds of things that she is good at, like taking a shot and taking a beating, aren’t exactly the things that get you ribbons and trophies and a spot on a television series.  April has never won anything. Not a single award or recognition. Not that she really tries. You can’t be a disappointment if no one ever expects anything of you.  Her mother has had her polished high heel on April’s neck for as long as she can remember. Why can’t she be more like her sisters? Why can’t she try?  The only person she ever tried for is dead, crushed by a chandelier in the kind of freak accident you can’t find any meaning in. So what is the point of trying?  In the last year, April has partied her way through Europe, staying in friend’s mansions and vacation houses. She has been picking up a few modeling gigs, hey, maybe you’ve seen her in Harper’s Bazaar? But she isn’t taking any of it seriously. Instead, she’s been smoking, drinking, and trying to forget her failures. Running from her problems is the only sport she’s ever been good at. And lying about how she’s doing has made her a fantastic actress.  She wanted to prove she could take care of herself—and she could, with the help of her boyfriend. But that’s over now, because April ruined that too.  So, alright. Whatever. She’s here to help her sisters get their family’s hotel back. Even if she’s more of a crash out than a mastermind, her and her sisters have always been stronger together.

Swynlake Weapons Safety Course Third Thursday every month @ 1700 - Town Hall All Swynlake residents who own a weapon; to include guns, bows, or any propulsion items, are invited to attend the mandatory Weapons Safety Course. Please bring all registration documents for each weapon along with proper personal identification. Experienced hunters and outdoorsmen still need to apply and certification will last five years. If you have any questions please get with Hugo Slade Swynlake Game Keeper.  Purpose: To ensure safety, accountability, and regulation. Here in the United Kingdom it is illegal to carry a weapon without a valid certificate; if member does not have such documentation it will be drafted and certified on site. Firing of a weapon without valid certificates is also illegal; amnesty will be awarded to all who were not held accountable under prior Game Keeper leadership. Hunting Rules: The laws and rules for hunting and shooting are different in each country of the United Kingdom, so it is essential to check before going out on a hunt. England and Wales have no closed seasons for deer, game birds or hares, and wild boar can only be hunted with hounds between 1 July and 31 January.  Items to be covered during course: - Nomenclature of weapons, knowledge of firearm safety rules, and proper weapons handling to include practical. (this is part of certification). - Hunting times, hunting rules…with or without dogs, and proper ammunition to use. - Sport shooting and regulations - Permits and certifications - United Kingdom registry I would like to welcome all gun owners, hunters, outdoorsmen, sport shooters, and anyone who is potentially interested in owning or operating a firearm. This will be a fun course to share knowledge and create a safe and trusted environment in our town. All weapons owners are expected to re-register their weapons before July 14th 2024. Looking forward to meeting everyone and build good relationships with out communities outdoorsmen! It is an honor to follow in my father and grandfather's foot steps and fill the seat of Game Keeper for Swynlake. I am a Swynlake native and have spent my university years studying abroad in the United States at University of Wyoming. Cassandra Day always felt a little bit behind. Several years younger than her incredible older sister, Cass spent her childhood trying to catch up to someone who had already done it first and better. Whereas Rosalind had graduated from college by 18, Cass dropped out part of the way through. The only place she was successful was in the kitchens, first as a part time job in a local diner and then later as her full time profession.

Their differences never changed how close the two sisters were. Cass adored her older sister and would have done anything for her. When Rose got married, Cass was the one who made their cake. She couldn’t have been happier.

She was 24 years old when her entire world turned upside down, inside out, and every other direction she could think of. At 24, she lost her beloved older sister and her brother in law who had become a good friend. At 24, her shattered nephews came to live with her. Suddenly, instead of being a young, up and coming chef finding herself, she had to be a responsible single mother.

But she was determined to do her best. Taking the life insurance money, she quit her job and invested in a small cafe with an apartment over it with enough space for the boys. It meant she could run up and down stairs between her different responsibilities, building up a customer base while building up a home that Tadashi and Hiro could count on and trying to build something like normalcy. A space where they could laugh again.

It wasn’t long before she realized that both of them had inherited their parents’ brains. It wasn’t long before Tadashi outstripped any attempt at homework help she could give, and Hiro wasn’t too far behind him. She couldn’t have been more proud, even knowing it meant they were going to leave her behind.

For awhile, it seemed like they were reaching higher and higher, on a path to change the world while she poured coffee and baked bread. Until tragedy struck again.

This time, it was Tadashi who left her behind, sacrificing himself to rescue Hiro and others from the devastating explosion.

Then Hiro nearly broke her heart when he told her that as soon as he was well enough, he needed to leave. He wouldn’t fully explain why, just that he wasn’t safe and he needed to go. At first, he tried to tell her he was sorry and would stay in touch, but she refused to listen. Hiro was all she had left. She wasn’t going to be left behind again, not while he needed her.

She sold the Lucky Cat Cafe, explaining to the loyal customers that she didn’t feel comfortable staying after her losses. Then, when he told her it was time, she disappeared with him. It took them some time, but they arrived in Swynlake, settled down, and she started to do her best to bring together some kind of normal life.

Cass knew it wasn’t going to be anything special. But it was enough. And who knew? Maybe she could get her nephew to smile again.

Samuel Smiegel learned, at a young age, the value of friends in high places. Growing up in an overcrowded London tenement, he only ever dreamed of his escape, and he found it in the shadowy corners of a pub when he learned of the lucrative world of hunting and trading magical creatures. Fairy wings, mermaid scales, unicorn horns— there was a demand among the city’s upper crust, and Smiegel was more than willing to oblige if it meant he got what he wanted.

And he did. Smiegel arrived at Eton in the fall of 1973, thanks to a few strings pulled by an influential alumnus who now carried a very smart unicorn-leather briefcase. Three very important things happened next. Smiegel met James Jones, or Hook, as he would eventually call himself. Smiegel became Smee. And then, having run out of money and finding hunting much more efficient at making fast cash than law or philosophy, Smee dropped out with his newfound friend and took to the sea.

They made a good fortune, hunting magical creatures across oceans and continents, and only had a few close calls. Once, they even dueled for an enchanted ship and won, trading in their leaky little houseboat for something much grander. Hook was never the same, though, after he lost his hand in a battle with an alligator, nor after he fell in love with a woman on land and had a child. Nor after tragedy struck again and Hook had a son to raise on his own now. 

Smee knew it was about time for him to retire, anyway. Besides, he would never abandon his captain.

But nineteen years later, the sea is calling again, and Hook wants revenge on the creature that took his hand. Smee never intended to return to his old ways (other than an online shop on the side where he still sells and trades the items in his collection) and at this point, the thought of all the violence turns his stomach a bit. But it’s what Hook wants, and Smee can be convinced to join in for one last job. This time, he hopes, things will be different…
