Radiata Recruitment Résumés #1- Ganz
Stats for characters assume everyone is at the same level.
Some may think Ganz is a terrible unit in battle since he can be kind of bumbling in some cutscenes. Some others may instead think that because Ganz is a main character, he must be quite strong. The truth is that Ganz is more of a mid-tier unit, but he does have a couple of pretty good traits.
Between Ganz’s swordplay and his Strength stat, he doesn’t tend to do huge damage, but he can serve as a dependable tank. His HP stat can’t keep up with the 3 nonhuman leaders but is otherwise quite solid, and Ganz’s Defense is actually the highest of any ally on the Fairy Path. The long reach on Ganz’s sword can also allow him to try and space out opponents to do damage without taking any in return.
Ganz’s usual Thought Process is Passive, which means he doesn’t typically attack enemies as proactively as you would want. To remedy this, give Ganz a Command like Attack Enemy to get him in gear. Commanding a tank like Ganz to Backup your healer is always a good play. You can also just tell him to Backup Jack and he will gladly fight by your side. Ganz will always follow every Command he possibly can (so all of them except Cure Friend).
Ganz’s Skill is Prevent Confuse, and the immunity to Confuse he develops through it is the only ailment immunity he has. While it is undeniably unfortunate to not have more ailment immunities, Confuse is a useful immunity to have, especially since your party has to contend with Confuse every time an enemy Ambushes you (attacks you from the back in the overworld).
In conclusion, Ganz has some very good stats for tanking, but he is held back somewhat by his Thought Process and slightly clunky swordplay. He’s a loyal and dependable ally who can’t be turned against the party by Confuse. He’s not the best tank, but pretty much every tank better than him comes from doing the timed Negotiating With The Orcs mission, so especially if you missed that mission, Ganz is one of your best tank options on the Nonhuman Path.
