I know it's very common for westerners to travel through Southeast Asia, especially to Thailand. And I can totally understand it because it's always warm and (most of the time) sunny, the food is good and almost everything is way cheaper than in western countries. Thailand has beautiful beaches, impressive nature and crazy cities. It's a paradise for some people! But what most people forget is that Thailand is still a less economically developed country. It's easy to ignore homeless people and child labor when you're on vacation and see beautiful things you've never seen before. The government is making efforts to relieve some effects of poverty and to improve the income of low earners. But quite a few people still seem to lead a rather poor and miserable life. I was born in Thailand and visit my family every 2 to 3 years. I've recognised on my last trip that tourism has grown and there is nothing wrong with it but some of the tourists were really rude, disrespectful and had no understanding and compassion. Example: there was a German girl, she complained and refused to pay 50 baht (around 1,30€!)for street food because it was "too expensive". Really? And when you go back to Germany you pay 4€ for a fucking Crêpe at a Christmas market, yeah right! Another Example: Italian guy yelled at an old lady and acted shocked because he had to pay 20 baht (around 0,52€) for a Pepsi! That's the normal price there and way cheaper than in western countries! I could tell you some other stories but than the text would be much longer than it already is. I just don't understand how some people can be so selfish and ignorant.
