#nonbinary napstablook

Why does everyone use he/him for Napstablook???? In the game, they very clearly use they/them. It's such a stupid thing for me to notice, but don't erase one of the very few characters we have, thank you.

I saw an argument that the characters who use they pronouns aren’t canonically nonbinary. The argument was that they’re only referred to with those pronouns to be polite because their “actual” genders aren’t explicit in-game. While referring to someone as “they” if you’re not sure of their gender is usually the polite thing to do, this theory doesn’t really add up. Whenever a character’s gender wasn’t explicit, they were usually referred to with it pronouns and not they pronouns.

Tbh it makes me uncomfortable when people gender Frisk or use the argument that they’re supposed to be you. The game makes it pretty clear that Frisk is their own individual person and that the player is a separate entity, much like in the game OFF. Also, monsters referred to Frisk with they/them pronouns, and have done the same with Napstablook.
